86" progress report
Good evening all.

Bit more progress with the 86" this weekend.

Body panels and rear tub now painted, so now on with the task of putting the giant jigsaw together again!

All the brake lines now fitted, master cylinder, fuel tank, etc.

Ive had to place a large weight on the rear to settle the springs, as everything is too short at the moment.

Rear flexi hose was too tight, shockers wouldnt extend far enough, axle check straps wouldn't go on.........

It's all looking better now Thumbs Up

Cheers Stephen,

Springs were Craddocks, although believe it or not one allegedly broke "in transit!"
The clamp on one spring had broke in half??? Shocked

They didn't really want to know, I didn't need the hassle so I welded it back together.

I have a set of 80" springs from Jones springs and they are much better quality,

Proper job Thumbs Up 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Couldn't fault them from the first phone call, to receiving them.

Excellent service, although not cheap, but the quality is there and that's what matters...... Thumbs Up 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Right,

Another big achievement today saw the rear tub reassembled, I was dreading this as it's incredible to see how many parts make up the rear tub Shocked

I know when it was stripped, I thought this was going to be fun putting it back together!

But an 8 hour day, God knows how many rivets, plenty of tea, and I now have a rear tub again Very Happy

It seemed criminal to use all my new old stock parts I've collected over the months.
Like taking out the original Lucas Pork pie rear lights, that have not been out the box since they were put in there in 1956!
All the rubber buffers still had their little labels on, along with boxes of Sheridized nuts and bolts, washers, etc.

I will keep all the boxes, as it seems wrong to just discard them after all those years.

Great job but your rear brake flexi hose seems to look as if its a bit tight. Wouldn't like to see you make such a lovely motor and you lose it through a brake failure. Big Cry

Thanks for that, you get that due to new springs, and no weight on a rolling chassis.

If you notice, shocks were not fitted to the spring hanger, due to being too high. Nor the check strap.

All sorted now, having a 1 ton block of concrete sat on it for a few days Thumbs Up 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"
