2.4 Turbo - intercooler pipe/baloon!
We had issues with an 08 2.4 110. In the end we discovered the turbo vanes were stuck. We replaced the turbo and all seemed fine.

As a precaution we replaced the intercooler pipes (turbo - intercooler & intercooler - inlet) at the same time, this is about 4 months ago.

This morning the turbo - intercooler pipe burst:

On removing it and comparing it to the one we removed 4 months ago, it would seem something isn't right:

The new, burst one is the black one. As you can see it's been taking some pressure and has ballooned somewhat. We've replace the pipe now it there is no blockage in the intercooler.

Any ideas?

It happens. I once had that same standard intercooler pipe burst too and then it was replaced by a new standard one. You can buy aftermarket silicon pipes from various suppliers, or you can go all the way for stainless steel as I have done recently, and which is a permanent solution. I bought these stainless pipes from Entreq which is top quality. Installation can be a pain though, which in my case was alleviated by having Entreq do the installation themselves at their workshop. You can read more in below thread.

Having replaced the pipe already, what I'll probably do is fit these if the issue arises again:

Seems strange that the pipe should balloon and fail in such a short time without there being an issue somewhere. It was a genuine LR replacement pipe too.

For the £30 odd quid it cost I doubt I'll bother. We fitted it ourselves anyway.
