Not run in yet at 3500 miles but not any better than the day I picked it up. When driving at 80 ish it drops to 21 mpg easily (old td5 was 25mpg).

What really annoys me is that I could accept poor fuel economy if it had some power (which it doesn't) AND at the same speed with an engine double the capacity and number of cylinders my parents 4.4 TDV8 L322 does easily 33mpg.

I drive pretty economically and can usually get good mpg (37mpg best from my td5) but my new 2.2 doesn't seem to respond to careful driving at all Big Cry 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Our 13my 110 on 265 km2's does around 26-30Mpg... It's always been similar, It is slightly better now it's been remapped (circa 400/420miles before the light comes on)... However I also have a set of purely road tyres and that bumps it into the low 30's, well 30/31mpg... TBH though it doesn't go much above 70Mph often as I find it's happiest around 65... HOWEVER IT DOES GET TO 65MPH QUICKLY...

Tim It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...

I bought my 2013 110 new and it's averaged 25.1mpg.
(around 10mpg more than the v8 I used to have).

I had a couple of td5s and the best i got out of them was 29mpg even on runs of 1800miles.
The one i have now(2.4) did 24 on the same 1800miles.
After a remap it is better 26 or 27.

Hi George, Getting roughly 23/24 mpg out of my new 90, less than the TD5 which would return 28ish for the same work. I also don't really rate it Whistle Its dull !! Just ticked over 1500 miles and pulls like a wet lettuce!!! It was been mapped before it arrived,Yes its quieter, more refined and the heater works......permanently......... but it's lacking in the smiles per miles area !!!

Used to get 30 to 34 out of my td5 110, get 26 to 28 out of my 2.2 110. Driven the same and same spec. I think the td5 was the best defender engine, they should have have improved it over the years and given it higher gearing like the disco not replace it with the ford engine and box. But hey oh, there is probably Lots of people out there that think the opposite.

It has seriously made me consider keeping it. I love the rest of it, full XS spec with extras etc. I just cant fall in love with the gutless engine and terrible fuel consumption Crying or Very sad 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

If you overlaid the torque curves from the two engines would the gutlessness of the newer engine really be apparent?

You'd notice the difference if only you could remove the EGR, cat and DPF. It would certainly rev much more freely and the fuel consumption would improve!
