I've got a 57plate 130 TDCi(Puma), been trying to find out which oil to use in Gearbox, Engine, Diffs and Transfer box.
This from JLR customer service: In regards to your enquiry please see below the information you requested: Gearbox - Castrol BOT 130M Transfer box - Castrol Syntrax 75W/90 or Texaco Multigear 75W/90R Engine - Use only 5W-30 oil meeting Land Rover specification WSS-M2C913-B Differentials front - Texaco Geartex EP 85W/90 Differentials back - Texaco Geartex EP 85W/90 This from Opie Oils: You need an engine oil that meets the Ford 913B or 913C specification. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-698-wss-m2c-913-b.aspx http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-1251-wss-m2c-913-c.aspx They are all fine for normal use. You need a 75w-90 for the gearbox and transfer box. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90-mtf...fluid.aspx If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Red Line MT90 and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Universal/Universal Plus/Syntrans Multivehicle, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives. The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Redline 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the transfer box. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices. There are a few options for your diffs. The best oils are a 75w-90 GL5, like the Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Red Line 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices. An 80w-90 like Castrol Axle EPX, Fuchs HYP 90, Gulf Gear LS or Millers Hypoid, or a SAE 90 such as Motul 90PA, Castrol Axle Z or Fuchs Titan Race Gear 90LS are good, cheaper alternatives to the 75w-90s. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90-mtf...fluid.aspx http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-676-80w-90-gear-oils.aspx http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-679-sae-90-gear-oils.aspx Left a little confused who to listen to, anyone help? Cheers, Ivan |

sorry never bothered with any millers oils
always used what I can get from local factors , so if ever you need more its easy to get always used Castrol , comma , Granville or just any branded oil if its to the spec listed in the owners manual then should be ok trouble with using some of the odd makes of oil the specs they use weren't listed in the manuals , so it makes things more difficult when choosing oil most oil websites have oil specs listed by vehicle reg , put your reg in and it gives you all the oils for your vehicle (Castrol and Granville have them I know ) |

Specs from the Manual here:
Click image to enlarge See also http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic8707.html The Castrol Engine oil is widely available from Halfrauds etc (but a LOT cheaper at Costco... £18+vat for 4 litres last time I looked) Gearbox uses 2.2 litres GL4. I used Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 Fully Synthetic MTF (Replaces SMX S 75w-85). Transfer box uses GL5 Oil here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Castrol-Magnatec...4194f97620 edit - cheaper here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Castrol-Magnatec...4d1a60f795 Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |
