^^ Depends how long the aircraft flew for. Airframe hours are accrued in the air not on the ground and many component changes and the finite life of the aircraft are governed by this and also 'fatigue' the measuring and recording of certain levels of gravitational force that the airframe has pulled in flight. Also under certain circumstances and agreement of the relevant autrhorities during refurbishment programmes this finite life can be either extended or in rare occassions the airframe hours reduced, maybe even down to zero. Some aircraft this hours log is kept manually and some electroniccally when the weight on ground switches on the undercarriage operate on take off.

Same as mileage really there are many old vintage vehicles in museums that have very little clocked up. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

That's my point XM655 for example had less hours before it was landed. XH558 has set a new benchmark for flying hours, I hope once she has landed if the first time there will be the motivation to get another flying, for the next generation. www.td5.org

Unless there is a large aircraft maintenance organisation like Marshalls of Cambridge who are prepared to write off another £4-500k of debt or provide for free I doubt it. They already had lottery funding as well I believe.

With the woes and financial troubles associated with the current one I doubt anyone would want the hassle unless they have adequate sponsorship and very, very deep pockets? If airframe hours are now an issue why wasn't this factor considered when this airframe was assessed as a potential flyer? It would have used up significantly more hours already had it met it's full programme without constant historical technical and administative flight cancellations. The whole project seems to have been plagued with issues (many of them foreseeable IMO) from start to impending finish. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

The problem now is not so much the airframe as the recent maintenance on it and upgrade extended it's useable life.
The main issue is engines, basically they have no more engines and not enough "cycles" on the current engines to go beyond this year.
There are no new or low cycle engines left.
Another issue is that many of the companies that built components for the planes in the 50's and 60's are no longer with us, the same is sadly true for the craftsmen and technicians.
As it is a complex jet you can't just bodge in a similar part.
It is far to expensive to commission one off parts etc.
What they have achieved with little or no real support from big companies is amazing and the Vulcan Effect at airshows is well recognised.
I grew up in the shadow of these planes as my Dad flew them for 20 years and the memories of seeing 4 of them doing a full QRA take off is something that can never be forgotten.

I will be down at wellesbourne tomorrow afternoon to see the Vulcan. I grew up near RAF Finingley ( now Doncaster airport ) and remember these deafening me as they roared overhead. It will be good to see them one last time.

Ha! My step dad flew Vucans from Finingley in the 1960's. I lived there for 2 years back then. He flew Vallients before that from RAF Marham in Norfolk. I love the sound and look of them. Cheers Don.

I grew up very near Handley Page, Park St, St Albans so my youth was accompanied by the sights and sounds of Victors doing their stuff ...another awesome aircraft. Steve.

As as aside I think I have just heard the Vulcan pass off to the west but too far over to see. Steve.

Keep in mind, if you want to see more of her than just a fly-past, she is performing at the RIAT at RAF Fairford in a few weeks.

While I'm down watching RIAT I will be collecting my L142 Rollcage that happens to be nearby in Stroud. Very handy indeed Smile
