Hi Ryan
I had a badly set up diff replaced under warranty by our local dealer, I found this to have less slap than the original diff but was a lot noisier at motorway speed. I raised the issue with the supplying dealer when my vehicle was in for a service but was told it was within tolerances, as the diff is now becoming noisier again I'd like to know how the diff noise is measuredand what are the Db levels which LR find acceptable? Or I s it down to the individual technician to assess the noise levels on the day? Just keep badgering! I had to nag for about a month before they agreed to do mine. Ask to test drive a demonstrator to see how it compares - when I suggested this my dealer started squirming and then agreed to change it.
Mine doesn't sound like it was as bad as yours, mine was only noisy on over run. hope this helps 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Thanks Grafty, I've had a few dealings with the supplying dealer and our local dealer trying to fix a catalogue of issues including leaks, driveline slap and electrical issues, at some points they've caused more problems than they have fixed but I'm not going to let it go.

Hi Ryan
It's booked in for 9th July, let's hope the technicians don't have their ear plugs in this time round!! However as we only have 2no dealership groups within a reasonable distance (one of which don't want to know me after causing damage to my vehicle) can you suggest what I do if I don't agree with the diagnosis? Do you still have mobile technical experts or do I need employ an independent expert to prepare a report? Hi Ryan
Got fobbed off by Pentalnd over the diff and various other issues!!! Have complained bitterly to Keith Anderson the service adviser (one of the good guys!!) To add insult to injury they went ahead and washed my car against my wishes (use a tatty old brush and leaves scratches all over my paint) used every single lick of fuel in my car and dumped it back on the forecourt for Keith to facet the flak!!! Overall not impressed by the "they all do that" attitude they have towards Defenders and at this time I'm waiting for a response back from Ross Hutchison and also copy of the job card and a full run down on their methodology and result used in their testing. I was going to PM you but decided we should do this publicly in the meantime!!! Below is the text of the email sent to Keith Anderson and Ross Hutchison of Pentalnd: Hi Keith This just keeps getting better!!! Was working late last night and didn't look at my car when I got home, went out this morning and low and behold your workshop guys decided to wash against my instructions!!! Looks like the both me as the client and you as the service adviser are wasting our time with requests and instructions!!! Also please accept this email as a formal request for a copy of the job card for the works I requested and also the details of the techs & their training levels who worked on my vehicle. When I booked my vehicle in I expressed concern at the fact your standard workshop excuse is "they all do that", I have been fobbed off with this on 3 separate occasions and when I have gained a second opinion from other dealer warships they have always contradicted your workshops findings. At this time I contact Ryan at Customer Services and open a case requesting another opinion from the LR regional rep, I would appreciate if you can document for me the methods and equipment used to test my car, the methodology behind the tests and how your techs formed their opinions based on the results. I also would like an explanation of the tests conducted to reach the workshops conclusion on the other issues I raised but which do not seem to have been properly addressed: Bluetooth car kit not operating properly - Keith has experience of the poor operation Vibration from driveline - nothing noted by techs but yet to have feedback on what tests they conducted We also have the ongoing saga of leaks, which I forgot to mention to Keith again , which have been partially fixed by your body shop, however the paintwork on my car has been scratched during the repairs works or by poor practice (ie using a brush) when cleaning afterwards, this is an ongoing issue I have with garages not washing cars properly using the two bucket method with a sheepskin mitt or a properly clean sponge. I look forward to hearing from you . I thank you once again for waiving the insurance fee for the use of the loan car but I'm shocked that your workshop saw fit to use all the fuel in my tank while testing and leave it to you to find out when handing the car back to my wife last night!! You'll be glad it wasn't me standing on your forecourt!!! This kind of action coupled the failure to follow simple requests points to the mindset of you workshop technicians and this in conjunction with my experiences owning OV62 RWO casts a serious doubt over their abilities and credibility. Well Grafty I've given up on Pentland Edinburgh and hopefully with Ryan's help I'll find another dealer who gives a damn in Morrisons Stirling!!!
been sent to another dealer as Pentland's technicians can't find anything wrong despite the service adviser hearing the diff noise and experiencing the hands free issue thats plaguing my head unit. I was in Lincoln last week and offered to drop by on my way home to demonstrate the issue and noise but the workshop were too busy to take 10 minutes out to assist preferring to wait until they had it in the workshop to suggest it might be a good idea to bring it in when its whining!!! Unfortunately Keith the service adviser had to listen to my whining following that statement and the techs using all the diesel in my car leaving it on the forecourt with the warning light on for my wife to pick up. I have given Pentland's workshop multiple chances based on promises of good service and because I like dealing with Ross the Dealer Principal and Keith the Service Adviser, however yet again I have been let down as it would appear their fitters are more qualified at plugging in Range Rovers than working on Defenders. Sick of all this messing around just to get the car I paid dearly for to what I consider an acceptable standard. Think it might be time for a back to back comparison with a demo 110 or maybe pull the rear diff and have the build quality and tolerances checked by an independent specialist. 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon 1971 Bowler Tomcat 88 4.2 V8 Auto 2022 110 D250 XS Edition - Gone 2024 110 D250 X-Dynamic HSE |
