The mesh is sitting behind the grill frame(?) so not sitting directly behind the slatted grill. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Having not actually modded my Defender yet, would it be possible to ask for some pics of the fittings?

I think that is really, really nice - very understated and cool.

To answer a couple of Q's / comments:

The mesh is just pushed on / secured by the fir tree fittings.

The air flow is no more restricted than the KBX grill I had before.

Thanks for the positive comments, I'm really rather pleased with the outcome Smile ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So was it grill off or can you slide it into place from the top?

Can you post up a photo of the inside of the grill - it might help explain how you have fitted the mesh Thumbs Up

Land Rover have their own version of this, or something similar:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RADIATOR-CHAFF-G...1426921497

I fitted one after cleaning loads of grass out of my radiator after deep wading. Now have to clean it all out of the mesh, but that is slightly easier with the grill off.

I attempted to paint mine black to hide the garish gold colour, but the paint doesn't seem to have stuck very well.

I kept an eye out on ebay until one one came up much cheaper, still not as cheap as your solution.

Why is there a large hole in the centre of the mesh?...whats its purpose ?as this would be difficult to replicate in a diy mesh!

"Why is there a large hole in the centre of the mesh?"

It's for the starter handle Laughing

Seriously though, I quite like that, might have to copy the idea - if only to keep some of the cr@p out of the air-con radiator. Thumbs Up

Sorry all - won't be able to post any "behind the scenes" pics until after the weekend, as it's into my local Indy for some work over the weekend.

The mesh was secured into placed by pushing it over / down onto the fir trees that hold the grill in place. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nothing like a bit of plagiarism to while away the hours.

Liked this idea a lot, and was looking for an excuse to remove and spray my very grey'd plastic grill and light surrounds.

Trip to Halfords for some paint, and spotted they have this grill in stock in both black and silver options. As I've got a black theme going on, black it was. A very good size match. had to cut off about 5 inches off one end.

I won't be winning any car painting competitions, but I'm pretty pleased with it. (Although now looking at photos i need to cut about 5mm more off one end..)

I simply lined it up, put the screws straight through the mesh into the original fixings.
