I've got a 2013 XS USW with an Alpine head unit that I've had out about 20 times trying to fix a rattle.
Get a pair of reading glasses and a good light. Radio face off. Trim surround off - optional but makes it easier. If it's the same as mine you can just raise the two tiny little 'cotton bobbin' type fasteners to lift the pin on each side of the radio enough that they clear the open face of the slot of the cage itself. Sometimes you can lift one, pull the radio slightly forward so it jams, then do the other side. Otherwise pull both sides together once the pins are disengaged from the cage. The bobbins have a recess in the internal face so if you have something sharpish you can use these recesses to pull on. Bit difficult to explain but easy to do. Make sure all the connections go back in after. The sub-woofer cables seems to come adrift quite easily when you pull the head unit forward. Good luck! 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |

Ok thanks I'll give that a try, I think I might have an old set of radio keys now thinking about it at my parents garage, I'll have to check. But your method sounds easy enough! Thanks! 2009 Defender County Hard Top (gone 😞)

I've had the same. It will almost certainly be the microphone plug has popped out of the socket in the back of the radio. It will have probably dropped into the gloom and need fishing out...
As Macpaul says, you don't need radio removal keys - just lift the little bobbins with something like a screwdriver and you can gently work the radio out. Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |
