Any thoughts on below?
If I'm not mistaken this feeds the ignition and then clutch switch and ecm. I should have tested it for resistance but just got on with cleaning it and replacing it. It seems like a reasonable fit and as such don't think it's been arcing but there is obviously some kind of coating? Click image to enlarge |

No what ever gave you that idea......
I was getting out of the car and something dropped on the floor so I simply picked it up and replaced it but happened to notice the different odours on the fuse connections |

Looking at the wiring diagrams I think this fuse feeds the ignition barrel and in turn the ecm with a branch off to the clutch switch.
Wish I'd measured the outgoing voltage because / after to see if there was any difference (or the resistance)? |

munch90,
the fuse from what I can see feeds the ignition, then splits to feed the ecm, the clutch switch and speed transducer. back to why I was fiddling; for the second time I can recall the engine had a very slight 'wobble' while ticking over (a bit like a bit of bad fuel in the line), I looked down and the scan gauge had gone blank like the power had been turned off! on several occasions I've thought the scanguage had gone blank but every time I thought it was just my imagination as it was only for a blink, but this time for sure it was blank. ....not sure if it's in anyway related but I've just realised I've been getting an alarm when I start up for low battery, not every time and I've kind of ignored it assuming it's an early warning for the battery being on it's way out and until it get much worse would leave it.......... as many of you know I've had numerous attempts at adding 2 + 2 and often end up with 57........just wonder if this might equal 4.3 ? I know you'll all have a laugh but in retrosprec I think everything I've had concerns over to date have proven correct it's just this one hasn't fully shown itself yet....unless of course the fuse was the problem all along !? |

the slight wobble , was it just after starting from cold and left ticking over ?

no not all - but even if it was could that have anything to do with the ultraguage going blank?
forgot to mention although it's on here somewhere else. someone once had a look at the voltage to the clutch switch and said that it fluctuated? I'd put it down to them not getting a good contact on the test probes of the multi-meter.......looks like I was wrong to doubt them. one other thing which surprises me (assuming I've got this right) - the wiring diagram from what I can see suggests there should be a 100A, 60A and 30A fuse next to each other under the drivers seat - I've got 60A 40A and 30A? I presume this is ok as they've not blown but surprised the wiring diagram is wrong? |

the 100a fuse is in the fuse box , the big screw down fuses in a row

on the wiring diagram (I'll try and post it up) it clearly shows 3 fuses which seem to coincide with the ones in the photo above. the other fuses (which I presume you are referring to are also shown). ? |

diagram is a diagram not a picture , just because it shows them in a row doesn't relate to how they might be on the car
normally fuses like them in your pic ,are for things that might or might not be fitted the certain models or options like abs, air con etc |

Why not carry out a voltage drop test across the back of the fuse connector. While the circuit is under load. Then that way you can access, if their is a problem at this point. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

very valid point munch90
martinfiattech - unfortunately I've already cleaned the fuse up - school boy error. |

Do it anyway. You may have cleaned the fuse, But the terminals within the block connector may still be dirty / contaminated.
If any overheating has happened the terminals can relax. So if you go into the back of the connector. Say to the bright sections of the terminals. You get a true reading of what`s going on within that section of the circuit. Anything over 0.50 volts, is a problem. Then if you can (and this depends on the type of fuse fitted) measure again on the metal sticky out sections on top of the fuse. Compare both readings with circuit under load. If they both match and are 0.50 volts or less (the least is better). Your fault is not with that unit. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires. |

far point. will give it a go (hopefully tonight)
back to the ultraguage I presume it's not normal for the read out to go blank occasionally momentarily? and re the low battery warning I'll just keep an eye on it? thank you. |
