Maintenance: Replace Brake Fluid
Point 21 of the Maintenance Check Sheet: Replace Brake Fluid
Does it mean I have to drain the system or top-up only? Janusz

My dealer replaced the brake fluid as part of the second service. Personally i would have left it for another two years. 130 crew cab

merebrowpaul - regret to say, but I have not seen you there. Maybe next time Smile

As for the main topic - any other inputs on brake fluid change? Mine has 40.000 km on the clock and +3 years (assuming dealers have not replaced it during theirs checks). Janusz

It should be replaced every 3 years or so. Brake fluid absorbs water and that may start boiling if you have to brake hard a few times after each other.
Was explained to me, so if I am wrong, I was told wrong. Roel

Is replacing it a difficult thing? I can not find detailed instructions in the Workshop Manual (or am I looking at wrong page - Brake System - General Information - Brake System Bleeding; General Procedures?). Janusz

Many garages can check the brake fluid to see its water content.

Some cars can go for an age, others cant...if nothing else, see if a garage has the tool to check Mike
