BFG Mud Terrains on snow?
As above really, are the BFG mud terrains any good on snow? Trying to decide what new tyres to fit, was looking at BFG AT K02's but no one seems to know when these will be available in the UK.

MTs are great if you are the first vehicle driving through deep snow but lethal on hard-pack snow covered surfaces. Many All terrain tyres will actually be rather good on snow covered roads (the AT2 is particularly good) and make far better all-round tyres. If you have some serious miles to do in wintery conditions thjough may be worth investing in some proper winter rubber.

Agreed, in my experience first class on fresh snow. On hardpacked snow and ice they're not great, but I have never found them worse than anything else except a dedicated snow tyre - nothing is much good on ultra-low friction surfaces.

The only thing to bear in mind that wide tyres (eg 285/75) are significantly less good than narrower ones (235/85. for example), the difference is noticeable. You need something that cuts straight down to the underlying surface. By Disco2 on 265s is surer-footed than the Defender on 285s in snow.

For the hard-packed stuff including ice a set of tyre chains is the best solution (albeit not terribly convenient unless you live in an area where they don't mess about with ploughs and gritters).

How about something like this?

But if this is for general UK use, most decent AT tyres in sensible sizes will be OK.

As mentioned and MT's are what they are designed for but not hard packed ice / snow.
In fact they are far worse than AT's on snow.
I avoid driving in it at all costs but do get in mud which they are superb for.
I'm running KM2's the same as Blackwolf above all be it his are wider.

As far as I am aware there is a new BFG AT on the market or immintantly due.

Yes was trying to decide whether to wait for the new BFG AT K02 as these seem to be rated as all terrain and snow. Still not sure when they're being released in the Uk.
