Need a Land Rover Specialist - Slough/High Wycombe/Uxbridge

Whilst waiting for the new Defender I had my Freelander 2 serviced today by the local LR dealer.

They do a 'Health Check' as part of that job - really it's a list of revenue generating add-ons that you've paid them to search out!

They declared I needed discs and pads all round. On a traffic lights rating the rears are 'Red' and the fronts 'Amber' , however they advise changing the fronts too due to corrosion???

Quoted a massive £1100 for the job (however there is a free coffee in it!). Checked on Rimmers site and the parts cost is £216 all up. It would appear that I'd be employing the fitter, sorry technician, for the best part of a week.

When MOT'd last week the technician thought they were OK but difficult to see and apparently not allowed to remove the wheels during the test.

Any contacts in my area that would a) check the work is necessary and B) fit these parts if needed. I'm a muppet when it comes to mechanics, so best left to someone who knows their stuff.

They are great at advising what needs doing and when.
Been using them for a couple of years now.

Although it feels that way that is only about 8 man-hours of labour at provincial main dealer prices.

I'd recommend Roy Staines at JS Landrover who have looked after my 110 for last 18 months.
He works from a farm unit just the far side of West Wycombe from Beaconsfield.
His prices are very fair and importantly he does a very good job.

I've had been told Graham Goodyer is good. http://www.goodyer4x4.co.uk He's only in Coleshill.

I've not used him as do my own work on my Defender. I'd happily take a look and see if your disc's and pads really do need changing and can also change them if needs be. I'm only in Forty Green.

Fixed by Goodyers on the same day I called.

As suspected, only pads needed all round - saved about £900 on Stratone Aylesbury's ' Discs are worn and all need replacing' misinformation.

Will happily use Goodyers again.

I always think dealers like that are so stupid. Now you know they're total rip-off merchants, or being very charitable: "mistaken", regarding something simple like wear on brakes you'll likely never use them again if you can avoid it. Result, revenue stream lost forever.
