A great Dash Mod for a TD5, 200TDi and 300TDi
I bought this dash top pod from Bolt on Bits through Ebay and I am really pleased with it, all wires go through the ash tray hole. The Rev counter fitted to the right hand side of the pod I also bought from Bolt on Bits and it was very easy to install, in fact it was a ten minute job, just a connection to the W terminal on the alternator and one to live ignition and one to earth and the rev counter works really well.

The pod I feel gives the dash a more modern look what do you think? The pod is esy to fit it and it comes with a mounting plate so is very sturdy
The three switches installed in the pod I already had, but for information they are Durite 10 amp switches and cost £1.25 each they now control the spotlights, seperate rear wiper wash and interior light. The amp meter I have not yet wired up!

Thats a Road View cam behind the rear view mirror by the way.

Nice!

Are the pod units big enough to take the LR clock? I'd rather use it for that and put a Rev Counter in the dash...

I would think so, the Pod is designed to take the standard 52mm clock/gauges. The inserts you have to cut out, but with a hole cutter takes seconds.

Looks like a little nod to the puma design in the form of it.

Can I ask what the gauge is in the far left of your dashboard ?

Battery Voltmeter for the second battery, you can also just see the top of two other gauges below the centre switch panel where another Battery volt gauge is located that is for the main battery and a boost gauge. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Now if you could get 52mm airvents to go in the pod instead of gauges.... 1999 Defender TD5 110

Yes I thought that as well. The finish of the pod is almost identical to the finish of the dash top so it matches really well, the back of the pod is enclosed so looks good from the outside as well.

Should anyone purchase this pod the only complicated bit is drilling the two holes on the sides of the pod so that you can attach the pod to the fixing plate. My advice is to spend a little bit of time measuring before drilling the holes so that they line up with the plate, as really you only get one chance at this. The best way to do this is to install the fixing plate to the pod on the bench and then with a flat edge make sure the fixing plate is dead level with the edges of the pod then with a sharp pencil mark where the fixing plate holes are on the inside of the pod and drill them from inside.

To align the pod to the dash fit the mounting plate without the screws and position on top of the dash, then when you are happy with its position and all is square carefully lift the pod leaving the fixing plate on top of the dash, check again that the plate is level and has not moved when you lifted the pod and then mark where the two holes are to fix the plate to the dash. Like with everything if you take your time measuring you will get it right first time. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Just what I was thinking, shouldn't be too hard as long as you could fit some ducting through the ash tray hole.

Here are some vents : http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&...1385789943

You could fit defender vents - but instead of having the outlet towards the side windows, you could route it up into those.

Would be quite an easy mod on a late TD5 dash as there is more room to get the air pipes up.

Would be much more of a challenge on a Tdi dash though.

Looks great, I'm seriously considering using this instead of my Iron Goat dash I had started to get prepared..... Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197
