Are the Duratrac aimed as a AT tyre ?

I'm running Cooper STT's just now but for the next 8 months the 110 will likely be my daily drive and these are too aggressive.

had been looking at the ST Maxx as an alternative but the wranglers might be an alternative =

not sure they are available in size to fit defender -based on the link Defender 110 County SW

I was running STT's on my 90, and switched to duratracs

I have 265/75R16's fitted, they can be a little tricky to get hold of.

Yes they are an AT, maybe sitting between an AT and a MT.

I found the handling to be much improved, STT's seemed to bounce everywhere. 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty"

I finally binned my Grabber TR's on Friday & had a set of five 235/85 R16 ST Maxx's fitted on standard boost alloys.
I struggled to find a local stockist, so ended up buying them on-line from Silverline & got a mate fit them for me.
I've only clocked up 70 or so miles to date, but first impressions on road + muddy farm tracks (where TR's would pick up a 'belt' of mud + spin out) are good.
Will be travelling up to Scotland next week, so hope to give them a proper on/off road workout. Thumbs Up '57 Defender 110 XS Station Wagon 2.4tdci

This is an older post but thought I 'd respond for those interested in ST Maxx anyway. I just changed my standard GG TR for them (31k miles in) and can only say I should have done this earlier. I thought the TRs were a decent tyre on tarmac, they never gave me any issue (off road is another story ...) but the ST Maxx is just better all around. Great grip on the black stuff and no additional noise, my 110 feels more composed. Off road, the tyres are just awesome! Never lost traction even in the mud. I will see how they do later on (hoping it snows this winter;) but so far, I am very pleased with them.

50K on mine and going strong - still plenty of tread and quiet on the road Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Can I ask you what pressure you run them on with normal load?

31 front 35 rear on a 110 with 4 adults and 2 dogs. No particular "formula", just according to the chalk test Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

"The chalk test". Lol. I just learned something. i'll try that tomorrow. I currently had 36 front and back and it seemed high.

Once you have, you will still want to ride around a bit and adjust them. I think I let my front ones down a couple of psi at the front to make the ride a bit comfier. In any event, they are all wearing well and evenly Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I am thinking of fitting Cooper ST Maxx on my 2012 Defender

Is 265/75/16 a good size to install on my stock rims without any mods (no spacers, no lift etc ...)

Can I go bigger without them rubbing under any circumstances?

They're about the same diameter as 235/85s, just wider so they'll fit fine.

255/85 and 285/75 are the other "pair" that are about the same height. 255s definitely fit fine.

The only thing is though that you'll reduce the steering lock on 265s compared to 235s.

Thanks for the response.

What about if I add spacers, will steering lock get back to normal?

Yes, but there are lots of other things to think about too, and whether a slightly greater turning circle would actually make any different do you I couldn't say. IIRC some of either the NAS spec or 50th Defenders came on 265s.

In an ideal world the centre of the wheel will be on the same axis as the centre of the wheel bearing. The further you put it out the more stress you put on every component. Will it make everything go bang? No. Will it over time cause extra wear? Yes. Will it cause more mud to be plastered up the sides? Yes.

Now there are lots of good reasons for wider tyres, spacers etc. but I'd suggest doing some reading first Smile
Meanwhile I'll be driving round happily on nice, narrow tyres Thumbs Up
