2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black

sound when turning engine off

New April-2010 2.4 TDCI 110, 7000km on clock

When I turn off the engine and the engine has stopped about 1/2 a second after, I hear about 4 "der-dah" noises... is this the beginning of the clutch death rattle or someother component about to die ? (or am I paranoid from reading all these clutch rattle posts?)

It's prob just the EGR valve 2.4 90 XS

Yup, EGR valve, that's what they do.

One day it will stop doing it and you'll need a new one. Until then ignore it. (You can always tell people that it is the security system arming!)

Being the EGR valve, you can even say it's a self-destruction system...

It's the EGR. Mine could be heard from 30m away when I stopped. Got it replaced yesterday and after having such a loud noise for over 12 months I kind of miss it when I stopped the car and it didn't do it. 110 2.4TDCi

thanks, definately the EGR no where near as loud as the youtube clip. ( paranoia eased ...)

You should start worrying when the EGR starts sounding like a cat mating

It's probably a good ideal to take it out and clean it, ask your stealer to do it at every service.

i did get told by a nice man from land rover assist that if yoyur egr valve sticks just start and stop your engine 5 or 6 times and it will free it's self, this is because the noise you hear is it going through a cleaning cycle,
