Spare Wheel Carrier?
I am thinking of installing a spare wheel carrier as my rear door hinge is starting to sag, I assume from the weight of the wheel.

Does anyone have one installed? Are they worthwhile and if so what is a good one to buy? I don't want something that will rust easy!

We can highly recommend Mantec, Safari Equips or the Front Runner spare wheel carriers. They all take the weight of the wheel off the door which will be the reason you are having some sagging. The mantec one will open with the door however the Equip one needs to be opened and then the rear door can be opened.

You can find out more online at > http://trekoverland.com/land-rover-online-store-wheels.html

If you don't see the product you are after on there. Give Clare a ring on 01751 430 693 and she will be able to talk you through all the possible options and advise you which one will be the best for your needs.

Thumbs Up

Well if you want a swing away wheel carrier that does not rust easily then there is only one choice.

Nakatanenga black powder coated stainless steel one available available here

It is probably the best one available in the UK and is probably the easiest one to fit as well. Thumbs Up

Available for both pre and post 2002 models and can also do a pre 2002 chassis fitted with a post 2002 door.

Depends really on functionality and form. Whilst the Nakatanenga one is obviously an excellent piece of kit so are the Safari Equipment ones. I have a Safari Equipment Single Pivot and due to the simplicity and the looks I think it is the better of the two. Mine is still perfect condition and carries a very heavy wheel with no annoying rattles or squeaks. You can also rotate the head 180 degrees for two height settings.

Safari Equip single pivot wheel carriers available here

However OP did state will not rust.

We supply the full range of Safari Equip wheel carriers and have one fitted and modified on one of our 110's and the SE single pivot on another.

No rust, Safari Equip wheel carrier galvanised then powder coated works.

I went with a Nak one in black from 4x4 Overlander. Great looking, quality is very obvious and really easy one person fit and as ever outstanding service from Brendan. Combined with one of the Nak gas struts on the door its a really great set up. Controlled opening and kids (and me) less likely to get caught in the door swinging about.

Maybe a bit over cautious with fitting from new to avoid deformation. But not drilling anymore holes was important to me . The NAK one just needs an exisiting rear x member hole enlarged (M8 to M10 I think).

Been on for a month now and would happily recommend. COTAG 4x4 Response

Thanks for all your advice folks. I like the idea of the single pivot, stainless would suit best. Where I stay on the west coast of Scotland it rains 98% of the time and being next to the sea makes for a saline environment Big Cry

Thanks....They too are stainless..... Thumbs Up

With regards to the Safari Equipment Single Pivot they are not stainless but do have an excellent finish that has not rusted or blemished on mine. As stated I liked the uncomplicated look too. Either way speak to Brendan, he pulled out all the stops for me on a separate rock and tree slider purchase and even went as far as personally going and inspecting suppliers stock and adding extra packaging to ensure I received a perfect example to placate my OCD tendancies.

I went for the Nak carrier too Gunbus, the stainless was a no brainier considering the amount of road salt we see up here. Thumbs Up 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

That makes me think, I have the rear step bumper. I'll need to check if fitting a wheel carrier will require removal/modification?? Confused
