Have you sent them the photo. I'd crack on with this now by phone/email as the longer you leave it the easier it is for them to play the amnesia card.

Also are you sure it's an invoice they have sent you? Who's it addressed to?

I'm going away so it is difficult to sort out sooner now with commitments.
The invoice was to me with my name and address. This is because I wanted it in writing what was done and fitted. On the day he thought it was just oil pump, oil and filter. Now when I questioned it he sent me the invoice, it details the list of parts that "should" have been fitted, sump included. Yes, I've sent them a photo. Thanks. |

Excuse my ignorance, a mechanical dummy is speaking.
Where is the oil pump on the Puma engine, on the side of the engine or inside the sump area?...Surely if the sump had to be removed, not fitting a new sump doesn't make any sense, although it is quite obvious in the pics that the old sump has been re-used? Pickles. |

So all the stuff that has to be replaced is inside the sump, so how stupid is it not to replace it?

Who was the dealer?
They definitely should have replaced the sump. Have you tried the Land Rover contact on here? User name is Ryan@LandRover. He should be able to contact the dealer on your behalf. It makes no sense as they will have been provided the parts in a kit from Land Rover and call claim for the time and parts against warranty anyway. Why wouldn't they replace the sump? Did they actually replace anything? That would be my concern. Dodgy dealer. |

Hello, this has all been sorted now. All the parts HAVE been replaced.
1. When they do this job the sump is damaged when removed, hence the new sump to be fitted. 2. As the technician wanted to ensure the job was done to the highest standard, as my vehicle was waxoiled including the sump, when he finished the job he took it over to their body and paint shop and sprayed some waxoil on it to stop it going rusty. It is great to know that there are people willing to go the extra mile with a job like that. 3. I have see photos on my old waxoiled sump and the other parts. I could have done with some of these answers earlier, but everything is clear now. I am also pleased to know now how much pride the technican takes in his work to do extra things like this, i just wish they had mentioned it and it took several days to find out. Thanks. Oliver. |

At the risk of starting a conspiricy theory, if your earlier photo is the one of the sump that they say they waxoiled for you then I would still be doubtful. It looks to me like a sump that caught a bit of overspray from the original waxoil treatment rather than one which had been taken to the body shop for a good coating . Also the photos of new sumps posted here and as fitted to mine are shiny black. Your "replacement" looks grey. It could be the photo or there may be different sump colours out there but again I would still have doubts. If you wipe off a small area of waxoil with a bit of petrol on a rag, is there a shiny black sump underneath?

Mmmm.
Just an observation... Your 'wax oiled' sump has had lots of great 'sealant' applied in the joint area. Thats not normal practice or should be necessary with a new sump and new gasket fitted... By comparison, the photo of the 'shiny black sump' has no sealant visible on the joint... as it should be... YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Your 'questionable' sump and the very shiny one in the previous post appear to have numbers stamped on them underneath and the service recall list also has a part number on it. Why not placate the people who are questioning the origin of your sump by checking the number and asking Jim Bean to do the same? If the numbers tally job's a goodun! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
