On our IBS split charge system we have mounted the 200 amp relay upside down so the terminals are easy to get to. No problem experienced with it so far. Chances are that this relay is used more frequently then a winch solenoid. Can not see a problem with the Albright solenoid being mounted vertically. Am not sure which Albright solenoid you have but a quick look on their website shows the statement that the heavy duty solenoids can be mounted either horizontally or vertically with the main connectors upwards. Thanks Brendan. I think I have actually answered both questions since posting by visiting the Expedition Exchange website. EE fits Albright solenoids as direct replacements for the can type, wired in the same way, with no ill effects. The latest Husky 8 winches (certainly in the US if not the UK) have Albrights as standard instead of cans, and the Allbrights are mounted on their sides and wired just like the cans used to be. When I dismantled the control box last night, I found my existing backplate is predrilled for Albrights as above already.
So it looks as though they can be fitted in any orientation, and there is no reason why it is necessary to wire the control lines back to the battery. I am still baffled by the statement in the instructions (and disappointed by the lack of response from D44). Maybe the Albrights are more sensitive to voltage drop, but the answer to that would be to use decent sized cables (eg 70sq mm welding cable) for the main cables. |

Well, I bought three items and the solenoid was the only one that was actually in stock at the time. The others followed one in 3 days and the other five weeks.

i have dealt with D44 a fair bit and never had an issue with them always been very professional and had what i needed. i am suprised no one replied to your post on their forum. i take it it was the new forum? Cheers
