I fitted a convex mirror on the offside and the plain large mirror on the nearside. Following a decent run I was not happy and reversed the convex mirror so the small mirror it is now at the top (just remove the rubber surround, pop out the mirror and reverse and replace the rubber surround). I find this arrangement a lot better, although I'm sure more adjustment will improve the image. Trevor Wright

I fitted a set of these last night, a quick blast up the A9 to Aviemore today confirms they're brilliant. They look bigger in the box than they do fitted. They don't wobble about any more than the old normal size heads did (but then again, I did make sure and tighten them up properly), visibility from the hard top 110 improved no end, I'd definitely recommend a set. Station wagon owners might not find them quite so useful. Not tried them for towing yet. Dirty Deeds - Done Dirt Cheap

Does anyone have any pics of these "head on"? Would like to see how much bigger than standard they look. Tom

Beware, After fitting mine, I too found that they were better with the small mirror at the top.
However after removing the rubber to change the mirrors over (LH/RH) I notice that the fixing plate on both mirrors was not engaged into the fork slots & with pressure the mirror would break away, since it was being held only by the plastic surround. My advice is to check after fitting, by removing the rubber & mirror to ensure the allen screw & fork fitting is correct.[/b] |

Within the mirror housing is a rectangular plastic plate with two holes. The fixing bolt will go through one of these holes if the plate is correctly pressed back into the housing. If not then the bolt will press up on the plate. You cannot tell from outside, so I suggest when you install these mirrors, remove the rubber surround and mirror first and check all is correctly located inside as you screw in the bolt. Resurrecting an old thread with comment on mirrors .. I fitted large both sides long ago partly as I was toing and froing to Switzerland, RH plain and LH (mudstuff) blindspot.
LH never held in place. Never. In the end drilled the ball joint and put 2 screws into the assembly. Then it stopped moving. RH was solid as. It was Britax. Till last week when a passing van just touched it enough to compress the rubber 1/2mm and - damn. Click image to enlarge ordered another from Paddock. Won't tighten. Not nohow. Looking at them, both are now Unitruck and they sure look flimsier than the old one. The old RH rubber is thick solid and tight. The new Unitruck is thin and floppy, can easily peel it off with fingertips. And the glue joint is, well not very glued or jointed. Not really good imo. Spoke to paddock, that's the only make they sell. Looked at the mudstuff website reviews for this product and the recommendation is unbelievably to "dismantle the mirror before fitting " and "plastic sounding snap from the inside of the mirror " .. This is not good for a decent sized piece of glass tootling down the busy roads. I'll bodge it up for now but if anyone knows where I can get a not Unitruck large Def mirror, at reasonable price do tell. Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ... |

Use the old rubber, dunk it in some boiling water it'll soften up enough to be able to fit it to your new mirror. |
