We have had sheep on our paddocks for a number of years and they keep it better and shorter than the lawn! so why not divide in half with a moveable wire fence (maybe electric) and rotate some sheep around so they keep it short and the dogs can use the half that the sheep are not on. That way you both get what you want and you get to keep the money for a mower for something better. You'd probably want to rotate sheep anyway after worming , so that sounds like a win/win.

You could run a hydraulic one, but you would need the pto fitted to your gearbox,
These do turn up on eBay from time to time. Although can be an expensive option by the time you have rigged up and found a flail that's compatible. I have a rear mounted pto on one of my series 1s A lot of people still use them for light topping, You would be better of buying an all in one paddock topper with the engine built in on the deck, that way you can just trail it around with the land rover.  A self powered topper would be the answer but despite guards etc there's always a chance of something flying up and hitting the back of your pride and joy. Flail toppers, while being able to deal with rough stuff, are usually more expensive than blade machines. Blades cut so usually give a cleaner finish. TBH you'd be better off with an old tractor but not so old so as not to have a PTO, the range of second-hand implements available is vast and usually a lot cheaper than those meant for mini tractors. Mind you everyone and their cousin are usually on the lookout for a bargain topper at this time of year. Steve.

Ride on mower would be cheaper than a flail mower, problem with sheep is dogs love sheep

There is a nice Flail mower with a donkey engine on it made in Ireland by Logic to tow behind a Quad. If they are safe behind a Quad I wouldn't worry about uising one behind a 90. They are not cheap but come up on Ebay pretty regularly

If you keep dogs with sheep and who will use the same land regularly check your dogs for ticks. I have sheep near my property and even though the owner treats his flock whenever my dogs cross the field they always seem to pick up ticks. Or as we call them round here vampire spiders

Or use it as an excuse to get a Series 1 and adapt it with a pto on the back. There was an article in one of the mags a while ago about a farmer/engineer who does everything cutting logs, ploughing, mowing, raking, etc with a Series 1. Ill try and find it and scan it over to you.

Thanks for the replies and advice, lots to go at and think about, I've been down to the local farming/garden machinery place and got some advice, but I don't really want to spend a fortune. I'll have to keep my eyes open on eBay.
I'll need a good mower, probably some kind of flail mower (the Logic one looks perfect, thanks Mountain-man), a long reach hedge trimmer, good strimmer and a chainsaw (got) It's either that or get rid of the wife and get a dozen or more sheep  |

Had a logic 120 mower a while back towed it behind my quad, flail is a bit more for rougher ground, mine had a 12.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine on top never failed to start, floatations tyres and cut the grass as good as any push mower.

Agreed, if you are buying land a tractor opens up a whole load of labour saving possibilities and be far more durable than a Land Rover. Steve.
