Have the same... Thought it was fixed but it's happening again...
I'd like to know as well as the dealer says there is no problem |

Funny this should be posted... Mine did exactly the same thing earlier today, except it was up to temperature. No odd noises, no engine management light, just had a little burp and then drove as normal!

Mine seems to 'stutter' at around 2k revs on a light throttle, either hot or cold with 600 miles on the clock. I'm going to pop into the dealers when I'm passing and see what they say.

I do not really know what they did nor do I trust what they say... They said they tuned the injectors, which sounds odd but truth to be told, the car did run much smoother after, it became a real pleasure to drive again and fuel consumption went down... for a couple of weeks and then it all started again, just like before Sorry if that does not make much sense Reading the other posts in that thread, it seems that I am not alone... Maybe the dealer is right after all, this is normal... One thing to mention though, in my case the problem is fairly random, it does not occur all the time... But like you guys, no engine management light (if only it could log an error, at least the dealer would be able to trace the problem down...) This post from Pete gives an explanation as to why this happen:: http://www.defender2.net/forum/post35108.html#35108 Maybe that's the post you were looking for? |

Just a 7mm ring spanner to loosen the retaining bolt and then slowly pull and twist to slide the o-ring out.
Give a good spray with break cleaner and clean the bulb very carefully with a toothbrush (rather take the wifes one to prevent bad taste in mouth afterward) and you should see it appear yellow in colour as I assume it was coloured from new. The o-ring is a good quality Viton type so it can be re-used again. |

My 10/2007 Defender has shown a similar symptom in recent months. I have had rough idle where the car goes off song then runs smoothly again after start up and at traffic lights. Also had knocking noise under power. Eased off for a few seconds and everything returns to normal. I have had this sort of thing twice now. Both times I have checked the fuel filter and found water in the fuel. First time heaps drained out which was clear water. This time (last few days) was brown sludge coloured (not good!), but not much at all.
Both times so far, draining the rubbish from the fuel filter has improved the running of the vehicle so that it runs very smoothly and quietly at idle with no "lumpiness". My feeling is that the Puma Defender might be very sensitive to fuel quality and contamination, but I could be wrong. I know they should be able to cope with poorer fuel but on mine it does not seen to be the case. I have put a filter cover on the fuel breather which I know can suck water from under the passenger side guard from wet roads, river crossings etc. I don't know where the rubbish is coming from but I think I will have to remove and clean the fuel tank in the near future. I don't know if this is the cause of your problem but is worth checking. |

Coincidentally I was speaking to the people at Devon4x4 about raising the height of the fuel tank breather - I have axle breathers etc that come out of the safari snorkel - but from what I read the fuel breather is a potential source of problems. Does anyone have a simple tip for where to route a fuel tank breather extension? I gather there is an LR tecnical note on moving the breather pipe outlet to keep away from wheel arch spray which in my mind only stops issues with 'ordinary' driving, not wading to any great depth

Well I've checked and cleaned the MAP sensor and it made no difference whatsoever - any other ideas? It did look black and tarry like the one in the photo but this does not seem to be the problem.
