We are building a new steel framed insulated workshop at 18m x 9m x 4m with four roller shutter doors and that will have cost £40k + VAT before electrics if that helps ?

Yes, very helpful thanks, looks like around 15k plus the base with me doing the labour, so about 20k all in. That's about what I expected.
Thanks both. |

Based on recent experience of having a stable yard and attached barn built I wouldn't have thought 20k was far out. Steve.

I have built an odd one or two wooden buildings over the years and if I was to build one for myself I would look at putting a steel frame up for the main structure and timber frame the sides along with a sheet steel roof. The size of the timber needed to cross the span of 8m would be getting a fair old size, to do the same in steel would be a lot less in bulk plus the steel frame could be engineered to give you the opportunity to incorporate a hoist etc.
It might be worth approaching a few local farmers to find out where their buildings came from and they could reccomend you a reliable company. Having it clad in wood would give you the appearance you want but the steel frame would be quicker to erect and rigid. |

That package looks really good value
If you want the panels insulated there is a big chunk to add in terms of cost |

Great stuff, thanks again, they all look suitable, I'm happy to install and build it myself, in fact I'm looking forward to it. I'm not fussed about insulation, just something that's large enough to work around a vehicle, store a couple of 90's plus a ride on mower, wood for the burner, general house junk etc.

I can guarantee that whatever you build, it won't be big enough
