The story was TD5 loss of power when going uphill...
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic36508.html Sorry I open a new topic here...I did clean the MAF sensor, also the MAP sensor, nothing change! I think the loss of power actually on flat road also, but going up hill is just too obvious... after the MAP sensor, I can see the injection harness plug is full of oil, this TD5was build 2003, I did check the VIN number, 2003 should run out of the injection harness problem, but here I am... Do I need to replace this? Is this the injection harness? Last edited by RF3777 on 2nd May 2015 12:12pm. Edited 2 times in total |

It probably does need replacing. If you unplug the red plug off the ecu and look for oil there, clean any off and check and clean again every couple of days and your power should come back. Ray

Some work this morning, the ECU area as clean as new, I guess previous owner didn't know the oily ECzu issue!
I took the ECU out for clean, was full of oil in the red plug! |

You should have some power back now but more oil is likely to work its way down over the next couple of weeks with the amount there was in the top plug. Keep checking and cleaning the red plug every couple of days and replace the injector harness. In the next couple of days I'm going to put up a post about sealing and replacing the injector loom with pics. Ray

This may be a silly question.....
.....but I'd rather ask first than find out the hard way. Can you simply disconnect the red ECU plug (with the ignition off) without affecting anything i.e. settings etc. Sorry if this is obvious - it will be to me once I've been told! I suspect I may find some oil in mine too. Cheers, Will |

Cheers JWL.
Just had a peek...... Yes, there's a faint trace of oil on the plug face and inside the socket. Nowhere near the amount on the pics on the post above BUT it's the thin end of a potentially expensive wedge. I've cleaned it all out but I think a new injector harness will be sound investment coupled with some aforementioned sealing. No related performance issues so far but more through luck I guess. Hey ho! Will. |

I first remove the negative cable from battery, then remove the red plug to clean!
When I re connect everything, only the OEM radio asked for the radio code when try to turn on, that was in the owner manual, no other issue at all! |

Have the injector harness change today, but no luck, the TD5 still go under power up hill...
Clean the red plug, yes, was oil in there again... The rocker box cover was full of oil, also all the injector, I remove the old injector plugs, I forgot to clean them(may be they are cover with oil), then plug in the NEW one, fit the new gasket seal, put back everything, go for a ride , same no power on hill, 3rd gear going about 40km per hour... |
