Agreed. Just like the mickey mouse Anderson type Anderson connector. Yes you might save a few quid but what are you risking? Having to replace engine etc when water gets in??? Buy cheap? Pay twice over! Also for any damage caused! They are not ebay el cheapos without good reason. Brendan |

Paddocks or Simmonites due to their buying power are nine times out of ten cheaper than most! Do a search under Safari or Snorkel and you'll find all the information you need!

I got a mantec one from flatdog which was £130 inc vat, fully fitted if that's any use. Just got back from Morocco (red dust central), checked the air filter and virtually nothing in it at all, so I'd highly recommend.

Arbill 4x4 are the master importer for Warn and Safari - they can be cheaper than the others - although the dont undercut the people who buy off them
As Leeds and discocuzzy said - by the branded stuff Mike |

Has anyone come accross the new safari yet? Thinking of changing mine to one of these and puting the LR one on the 90. Is it on sale in the uk yet?

Shop around....Devon are good but there are cheaper suppliers.... Don't like the exposed mounting bolts on the new Safaris at all personally! But hey ho I'm not buying! I noticed a few weeks ago that my Safari snorkel bracket finish was beginning to look tired. Manufactured a 3mm thick stainless bracket 150mm long with internal measurement of 45mm with a fold at the 20mm point.
Old bracket. Click image to enlarge Removed the bracket and was surprised how rusty the captive threads were. The rust had migrated considerably on the rear of the old bracket under the powdercoating and most of it was 'bubbled.' No rust on the bolts though. Click image to enlarge Cleaned the whole area off and degreased. With a liberal bed of my old favourite sealant (name available on request) I adhered the new bracket to the pillar and cleaned the excess sealant off. I sprayed the discovery one with hammerite before fitting - greased up the bolts etc and it hasnt rusted. Im sure i did the same to the defender...but who knows where that is
maybe thats a top tip...they do rust though Mike |

Ok its the " defender look " and iv had a snorkel for years BUT , BAS has just done the tests and told every one that there is a 10bhp reduction in power . Is the snorkel still so appealing ? Im doing every thing possible to get my breathless 2.2 more power and since that amazing result decided against a new snorkel .

I've got a 2.4 with BAS remap, larger intercooler with stainless steel hard-pipes, stainless exhaust and enough torque and power to keep me happy. The snorkel was fitted fastidiously, wing drilled, snorkel fitted and sealed all round. Since fitment of the latest upgrades the engine runs considerably colder and even when hot the temperature drops significantly quicker than previously. For me in my circumstances the benefits retaining it far outweigh those of removing it! I personally would still have one fitted purely for aesthetics as I love the look of a Defender with a snorkel myself. I agree with Mal's views myself. The BAS findings don't put me off as there are other benefits that outweigh the so called issues they cause. There is colder and cleaner air for a start and a cooler intake temp IMO is nothing but a good thing.
