Defender Pedal Locks
Found this on ebay, sent a message to the bloke asking when he will be doing one for the Puma Defender. Got a reply saying in the next month or so depending on when his mate will loan him his puma so he can size it! Anybody have one on their previous defender, do they work and are they worth £80 plus postage? Also looking to fit Mudstuff Mech lock but emailed them a year ago when i got defender and was told it would not fit on the bulkhead due to the bulk of the engine however it could be fitted into the cubby box, anybody done this? Question

I have one on my TD5 and love it. It is very well made and very strong - not measured it but guessing at 4mm steel plate. It uses a very good padlock and has been made so as to fit very closely. It would be massive job to cut one off. I use mine every night and if I'm leaving the 110 for over an hour. My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk

Update on Mech Lock
Got an email from mudstuff this morning saying that they now mount the lock body into the Ecu compartment under the drivers seat and use 3 meters of braided hose to run it into to the engine compartment to the clutch master cylinder. However they did not explain how they route it. Would there be any problems using this location in reference to the delicate electronics located there.

I did a little more research on the pedal lock and decided i want one! After reading the posts fekete and SiWhite put on here ive decided to pester the manufacturer with emails on a daily basis in the hope he gets his finger out and makes me one! Mad

In your emails, ask if he'll make one with a cover for the bonnet release lever - you can still open the bonnet with the lock in place. Seeing as the lever is right next to the pedal lock on a TD5 it would make sense to disable that at the same time... My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk

Good idea, would never have thought of that. Emailed and asked, will let you know the outcome.

If you put the lock across the bonnet release i dont think you would be able to fit the lock.
My lock slides in from the throttle side onto the brake pedal and can be a buggar to fit.
The extra length would make it harder to fit i think, i did think it would be a good idea too, but as all the scrotes just cut the cable and pop it open from outside the extra bit of lock would probabally be useless.

I spoke to mudstuff a couple of months ago about the mechlock and they basically told me that it was such a nightmare to route the piping around the puma that it would cost a he'll of a lot in labour to fit it (basically, they said, don't do it). I'd be interested to know if they've found a better solution. I'm up in hebden bridge in a few weeks - I'll pop in and ask them.

I bought the clutch claw as a pedal lock. It's a bit of a PITA. Lovely, simple concept just badly executed. The pins need to be 10mm shorter and the lock must use black magic to engage because I can never seem to replicate what eventually worked the night before. I think the quickest I've ever fitted it was 2 mins. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Mudstuff Mech lock
Got a reply back from mudstuff about fitting to a Puma:

Quote:
The handful of Puma devices we've fitted have been installed into the ECU compartment under the drivers seat which leaves the lock barrel coming out on the front face of the seat box. Sorry, I don't have any pictures.

We have had flexible Stainless Steel braided hoses made up to run from this mounting location to the clutch master cylinder and the flexible hose on the bulkhead. The addition of the braided hoses (3-metres!) unfortunately increases the price of the unit by £100.00.The pipework runs over the top of the bellhousing to the flexi-hose on the bulkhead and along the top of the chassis to the master cylinder so it is well protected.

We can normally install the device in a couple of hours. Labour rate is £35.00 per hr plus VAT.

So with the following prices: Meck lock system Defender kit £410.00 inc vat
3m Stainless braided hose £100.00
2hrs Labour £70.00
Total £580.00
I am still trying to work out if it would be worth fitting as theives can still tow the car away with the mech lock fitted and armed, and replace the clutch pipes to the master cylinder at their leisure! Confused
Also you can get the new Tracker Locate fitted at your home with a years subscription for £604.00

Ref Defender Pedal Lock,
Checked the bonnet on my Puma and cant see the release cable. Mind you if they want it open they would just use a crowbar anyway. Big Cry

They've obviously figured it out then - good guys. That's not too bad I reckon. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Come on guys - do you not remember, 90's and 110's didnt have bonnet releases inside, they had a barrel lock and a handle behind the grill...if you were desperate, then thats an option to retrofit?

But seeing no other car i have ever owned, bespokely locks the bonnet then its not at the top of my list! Mike
