Brake and reverse lights not working
I noticed that my break and reverse lights are out. Fuses are fine. Where to fault find next? Are these light going through the same connector?

Is your high level and numberplate light also not working? They have different earths so it sounds like a supply issue.

Check the supply at the lampholders with a multimeter using a different confirmed earth. The only common factor is the supply to fuses 13 and 14 which is a single feed up to this point then splits. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Btdt, back numberplate light tends to have water issues resulting in other lights not working, though don't think it influences the brake and reverse light (if I remember correctly)...

Rear lights, for headlamps, are working.
Do I access the lights from the outside or inside?

Outside. Undo the two screws and gently pull the light out. There will be a connector on the rear. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

First thing I would check is the bulbs. The high level can fail to work because of contact problems on rear screen, it is also possible both lower bulbs have popped. Reverse light not working may be switch issue.

Still didn't have time to check the bulbs. It's a bit of work since I have covers over the lights riveted on. Number plate light is working.

Have you got a trailer socket fitted? If so plug a trailer light board in and check if they're working. If so then it's probably an earthing problem that may be sorted by undoing the corner panels from inside as the loom, if I remember correctly, feeds the multiplug under the offside rear wheelarch first before the vehicle lights. If the problem is still present with the trailer lights connected then the problem is closer to the source of power to the switches, ie fuse or broken wire.

Pointing towards the switches then, might be well worth looking up on t'internet for the locations of the plugs on the loom as with both not working it'll be likely to be a poor connection where the wires join into the loom or some wire damage in the vicinity.

Hey did you eve get to the bottom of this. I have no Reverse lights but everything else is working. Checked fuse all good, sniffed around the gear box looking for a loose plug or fitting. No luck. My Defender and travels

Yes I did. The brake light fuse kept blowing. In the end i opened the unit, but the bulb was fine. Upon closer inspection one of the spring connections to the bulb broke off and shorted the brake to the headlamp connector. Same happened to the reverse light but no fuse blown for that one, only the spring pin fatigued and broke off. New plastic housings and all are fine!
