Never did quite understand that, nor the exemptions from parking charges. They’re disabled/handicapped, not poor! And if double yellow lines are painted on a road presumably because parking there would cause a hazard, why should ANY vehicle be allowed on them? More honest to simply have signs saying “This stretch of road reserved for Blue Badge holders only”? WITH payment, of course.

Longer entitlements for the handicapped/disabled - it may take them longer to shop than the able bodied - and, of course, reserved places closer to amenities ‘cos the fully fit can walk farther.

But, unfortunately, the many abuses of Blue Badges (“Why should I pay for parking when I can park on double yellows and cause an obstruction?”) will cause a backlash and the genuine disabled will suffer.

If UKIP pledges to throw out BB abusers along with foreign-born nurses, care workers, dentists and surgeons as they seem to be suggesting, they’ll get my vote.

sorry some might think this is being racist but it's simple fact.

I've worked in the same place for c 5 years now and virtually at any time between 9-5pm Mon - Fri there are numerous cars which appear to belong to the shops on the same street which all appear to be owned by ethnic minorities flaunting the double yellow parking and BB's.

considering this is a fairly main route the traffic wardens only seem to frequent the area occasionally preferring to stick to the minor side roads where cars generally on park in parking bays but happily issues tickets where parking tickets have expired etc.

on the rare occasions they do 'control' the main road I've yet to see a ticket issued. the shop keepers all come out and play 'musical parking'. I've even spoken to the traffic wardens and they've described it as a game of cat and mouse. clearly it's easier to ignore the problem than sort it out.

it could clearly be coincidental but most of the traffic wardens also appear to be of an ethnic back ground - either way it should be resolved. and adding insult to injury a friend of mine was doing a delivery and had parked for perhaps 5 mins and got a ticket. He took it up with the 'governor' of parking for Birmingham who's name is Mr Khan........

UKIP voters
I have no idea if your facts are racist or if you are being racist, however I doubt the later, as we all interpret what we see and witness in our own fashion. And what you have observed is not just down to immigrants or people not of British nationally, as the abuse of the Blue Badge scheme is universal amongst all races that inhabit the UK.

As I have mentioned in an earlier post one of my children has a Motability issue through no fault of her own. My daughter works in electronics but needs a little bit of help with certain of life’s issues, namely being able to park her car near where she can get into her wheel chair and shop near where she wants to shop.

I agree that some selfish people use the Blue badge wrongly, such as a member of their family is issued one and then they use the badge as their own even though they have no mobility issues, this is wrong and the law will prosecute people who do this. However this abuse of the Blue Badge scheme is not just down to Asian people or people named Mohamed, Khan or Mustafi, it is just as prevalent in people named Smith, Jones or Davidson.

UKIP and their right wing cohorts the Conservatives have demonised disabled people enough, true disabled people who are deserving of their rights, even if people think they are getting more than they deserve should be ashamed of themselves. My daughter since she was aged five has had thirty six operations, some major and at times she cannot work, but she always wants to, and she always wants to pay her way, sometimes she can’t, but that is through her being in such pain through her disabilities that it reduces her to tears. The Blue Badge scheme helps my daughter, and anybody who abuses it should hold their head in shame.

Sorry for the little rant but those dads or partners who have disabled people in their care like me know what I am talking about. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Gilarion I genuinely feel for how and your daughter - I'm not in anyway against the proper use / issue of bb's.

It's the blatant abuse of bb's and abuse of double yellows by many outside where I work who all appear to be of foreign roots (I can honestly say there are none within sight of here that Appear to be of UK decent so again this is fact not being racist or discriminating).

After reporting abuse of bb's I just happened to notice parking is controlled by Mr Khan.....is it a coincidence they are still getting away with it?
