I use a First Four HD bumper. They have built-in recovery eyes underneath the bumper, where the bar stretches back inline to the rearward eyes in the chassis where JATE-rings usually bolt to. This offers a much stronger places to pull from as there's 3 bolts taking the strain instead of the just two bumper bolts. The whole of the bumper piece is made from 5mm steel, the recovery eyes obviously thicker than this again.

I asked them to make me one with a 2" receiver in the middle for other accessories, but also provides another, central recovery point using the shackle block insert.

Yes, Mcgeordie, they are definitely the best I've seen, for my purpose anyway.
I don't envisage any "heavy duty" off road stuff, so these should be fine for me.
Did you have to take the bumper off to fit?
Any chance of just one more pic, standing a bit back from the front of your Defender (something like Kmac's image of his front bar!), so that I can get an idea of what the general vehicle looks like with 'em on?
Thanks, Pickles[/quote]

Hope these help:

Well trawling the net, I came across an interesting modification dated August 2012:

"This instruction details the fitting of additional lashing eyes to the front bumper and to the rear chassis rail. This modification is only applicable to those units who would be considering transporting the equipment as internal load by Air."
