I had the absolute pleasure to do the Heritage Tour last week. Brilliant! Our trucks are wort every penny!
I was so excited about the last bit of the tour... the opportunity to see a 'Heritage' 90 in the 'flesh'! Loved it... apart from the grill. It is just AWFUL IMHO and lets the entire vehicle down. 1: Horrid 'plasticty' plastic! 2: The Grassmere Green colour accentuates the really 'Plastic' nature of the grill. 3: The plastic feels really 'cheap' and easily broken. 4: I am sure the 'Landrover' badge will be stolen... rivets into plastic? 5: WHY on earth do UK Heritage models, without AC, have to have the huge enlarged A/C grill that just enhances all of the above? At least specify a smaller non A/C grill for non A/C cars Part of me is ignoring this... as the rest of the car is great. But I am not sure I can really live with these misgivings. And I don't want to add an 'aftermarket' grill... I hope someone from JLR reads these forums... at the very least, please give the non A/C UK cars a non A/C grill. PLEASE! Pete YOLO... I was thinking about adding an aftermarket metal grill, maybe even getting it painted Grasmere green, and just putting the original plastic one away for the next owner.
How about this one from Nakatanenga? Painted the right colour and with a badge it might look the part? Though I'm not sure it would work if the Heritage grill and frame is a single piece of plastic . . .?? http://nakatanenga-tours.de/shop/article_K...GHTAL-S%26 Nick 2015 Defender 90 Heritage edition on order |

Yes... seeing it in the 'flesh' has actually got me thinking it is indeed, as you say a lot of 'cash' ...
I really like the idea of the 'Heritage' edition but the execution I think needed some more creative thinking. The Rippon L/R version on here does just that. I like the Grasmere Green colour and that version of the white roof. Wheels look cool too. The seats are nice but if the creased and worn ones in the 'museum' example is anything to go by, they won't stand up too well. I wish they had put a real steel galvanised front bumper on it, rather than the silver one. That would have lined up with a nice steel grill. Also make it a bit more 'special' for the owner with the allocation of a 'build plaque' badge saying xxx/400 or something like that. Lotus do this to great effect. £31,000... that would buy a very well equipped and specced 90... Mmmm, second thoughts time for me now... YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

I have just copied this link from another post...
I wish they would do this with the Heritage... such a simple idea but adds so much providence IMHO! https://www.defender2.net/gallery/albums/u...G_0780.JPG YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

This here may be a good solution for replacing the plastic Heritage grill. Sprayed in Grassmere Green it would be exactly what the Heritage needs I think to stay in tune with its retro spirit.
Eric http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic36237.html You never actually own a Defender. Yes that is much nicer!
I think it would be a MASSIVE improvement if JLR would just make and fit the smaller non a/c version of the grill for the UK cars. YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

^^ But they will not.....
Big corporation, big beaurocracy, slow to react, not flexible, and highly unlikely that at this stage they will still get a new design made for a non airco grill, outsource the production, and get it on the assembly line... Odds that that could still happen before Heritage production will start is like winning €MLNS tonight. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

interestingly, i also thought the same. I really want this car but always struggled with the grill. I couldn't make my mind up if it was the absence of letters on the bonnet that was doing it or the strange angle of the grill line. Im really not fussed about the air con, i am happy to have heated seats and heated windscreen, so on that basis i think that a classy non air con grill would look the part. In short, if If i could get a hold of a aluminium wire grill then that would be perfect.

nidge n,
That is exactly the way to look at it. I quite like the grill although I have yet to see it in the flesh, but if it was an issue surely the simplest thing would be to fit an aftermarket grill in place of the heritage grill and then refit the original grill come re-sale time. There is no way I would let any issue with the grill stop me from taking delivery of a heritage. I also think the heritage is very fairly priced for what it is, particularly when compared to the adventure & autobiography limited editions. |

I agree guys. It's just a grill.
I'll probably change it and keep the original as has been said above. |

As an alternative, how about a Stage 1 V8 grille for a more authentic 'heritage' look?
Not that I'm biased... Click image to enlarge You'd need a standard grille surround as well, but at least it keeps the original parts intact. |
