How loud? It it a sort of ker-clunk noise? Does it do it in other gears?
The answer to your questions is probably yes to both. The Puma driveline is a bit pants and seems to suffer from a lot more slop than the older ones. Common issues are an adaptor shaft between the gearbox and transfer box and the clutch losing the will to live, but there are lots of other places for a potential clunk. |

Thanks for the reply.
Its not over bad used to get same in my 300 tdi. Mostly in fifth gear but if your quick with the clutch it will do it in every gear. Just worried about it becoming a big issue. Car has done 33k so it relativly low miles so hoping it was just a common Tdci thing. . Will be towing with it soon so will pay attention to see if its worse under load. Rod |

that sounds like the normal clunking noise then, there are loads of threads on it if you have a look just to make sure! To put it in perspective, mine has clunks and needs a new clutch at 15k miles. Although I'm currently putting off the new clutch that's probably making things worse.
TD5s don't seem to suffer nearly as much. |

Mine turned out to be the A frame ball joint. Didn't think of that at first, so checked axle splines and drive flanges etc etc etc. As mentioned, plenty of threads about it. From memory I think there was a recent one in regards to the A frame ball joint replacement. Pretty simple job if it is, can be a pain pressing out the old ball joint, or you can buy one already pre-fitted to the fulcrum.
