Woke up again last night at 4.30am to the dogs barking, looked out of the bedroom window and saw a torch light shining up my drive onto the Discovery and Defender. By the time i'd got downstairs and outside there was no one about except the noise of a car in the distance. I fear it won't be long before a proper attempt is made to steal it. I think they're just eyeing it up for now. A farmer friend of ours 3 miles away had a Defender, two Isuzu's and a brand new quad stolen a few months ago. This is getting ridiculous, if I catch anyone out there they'll have my baseball bat to contend with, b******s to the consequences!

I just got off the phone with the police to keep them updated as to whats happening. She told me next time it happens to phone them immediately as they could have someone in the area. Highly doubtful as we live in a rural location and can't get anyone here when we phone them but fair play she logged all details and said to take as many precautions as we possibly can.

Can you not rig an alarm mine somewhere across your drive at knee height? [so badgers/foxes etc don't trigger it]
Preferably a couple of feet in front of Landies so the trigger line is harder to spot http://www.amazon.co.uk/BISLEY-GAUGE-BURGL...B0049ACMC6 Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

What do you do, put a blank shotgun cartridge in it? I'm all for that but how legal is it? With my luck i'd end up in serious . Just to give you some idea, if I was an undertaker no sod would die!

I was thinking some dark colour string, at knee height linked to something to give an early warning - maybe to a recording of a shot gun going off? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Seems to be a lot of "activity" in the area at the moment. Not sure if you are a member of the OWL network but there are a few suspicious vans in this area at the moment. Worth joining up and getting the Email updates so you can be forearmed of any nefarious activities and perhaps take extra care.

Yes my friend i've been a member of OWL for a long time and follow it avidly. It's bloody marvelous for local news on break ins and suspicious characters fair play. If I catch anyone messing with the wife's 90 i'll break their knee caps.

They take a blank cartridge similar to a shot gun shell. And yes, perfectly legal, all they do is make a LOUD bang, nothing is discharged http://www.henrykrank.com/index.php?main_p...ts_id=2964 http://www.henrykrank.com/index.php?main_p...ts_id=1303 Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Have you got any security devises on the car.
They had my quad out of my garage and lifter/run it over the top of my range rover. This was in 2012 the police called me about a month ago. they found it in a garage in Swansea. Bast ds everywhere Just make it as hard as possible for them and your right bust em with a bat. I hope they don't come back to your car fella. |

Thanks Jay. Yeah there's quite a few and it's also blocked in by my Discovery and the sons Citroen. Looking at an 8 camera nightvision CCTV setup now also as an added precaution.
I just had a phone call from the local gendarmes asking me if anything else has happened. Being a farming town, Land Rovers are very popular and the officer said 'we are more than aware of the thefts of these vehicles around the country and are trying to build up a picture of suspicious activity in the local area regarding these vehicles'. A farmer friend of ours had a Defender stolen along with 2 Isuzus and a quad not too long ago, they even went back the next night and tried to steal a bloody tractor! I asked her what was my position if someone was on my drive stealing my car and she said i'm not allowed to touch them UNLESS I am physically in danger. Physically in danger? There's plenty of old mine shafts around this area to ditch a body and they'd never be found! |

Posted on the Just Series and Defenders group on facebook tonight in my area was a white transit van reg no KR60 DHU acting suspiciously in the Cross Ash area near Abergavenny. Asking if a Defender was for sale down a single track lane and were there any others in the area. Another sleepless night for me I guess.
