32 years after 'taking the Queen's shilling' I have just this week handed in my uniform. I have had a fantastic time, met loads of interesting people, done some outrageous things, and had a complete blast all 'whilst sailing pretty close to the wind' I hasten to add. I was not in the Navy by the way! For those in the know 'Crabfat' that was me!
Well today after two interviews l have managed to secure a job as a marine electrician and spent nearly 3 hours looking round one of the vessels I will be expected to work on. Four engines V20 with pistons the size of dustbins 10,000BHP each engine....it is 'the stuff of dreams' and a job above my expectations of leaving the Service. To anyone contemplating Service employment...Would I do it all again? HELL YES LIKE A SHOT!!!!! Looking forward to my new job, and to all those that have supported me with their good luck wishes through the stressful and tumultuous interview process and to those that have already congratulated me...Thank you all!!! Especially Fekete, 'Grandma' (you know who you are!), Glyn, dm_td5 and JMS. Off up pub now! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

So you got the job Mal? Well done! Have a pint for me too.
Is that the former HMAS Jervis Bay? If so it looked a lot better (meaner) in battleship grey. I'll have to have another look for the pictures of it when it called in to refuel here years ago on the way to East Timor. 110 2.4TDCi 110 300Tdi LROCV ::: AULRO.com |
