Considering booking a day's laning with Kankku, they will do it for £250 for 4 x vehicles which is steepish for using Green Lanes I know but it takes the stress out of the research etc.
Anyone interested? It would be a mid-week day. Andy |

Maybe, if you have the time and a memory-map equipped GPS, of which I have neither! Andy

I spent all day sorting routes with a red pencil and a 1:25,000 OS map for a days fording with the kids tomorow
Nice to plan where your going and do it at your own pace Booked trips can be fun too but hope you don't get companions from hell 59 2.4 110 XS Utility 55 TD5 110 CSW Special Vehicle |

Well I decided to delve into Memory-Map today and with the help of the LDNPA website have marked up a load of lanes so looks like I'll save the £60 and do it myself!
Surprisingly my new phone (HTC Touch-Pro) has GPS and works a treat with Memory-Map, never even checked before as work supplied it Andy |

Back to the original question.
Never used Kankuu and I would object to paying someone to tell me where to drive on public roads anyway. However not very impressed with them... I was on holiday in the Lakes recently and walking from Grizedale Forest visitors centre towards Esthwaite Water on the Byway known as "The Fox". Now this byway has a voluntary restriction on it so that it is only driven West to East. The reason being that driving down the rocky descent towards Grizedale (Westwards) causes excessive erosion as it pushes the rocks down hill. So you would expect a local operator to know this but no, half way up we met a Kankuu 90 coming down the slope. Not only that, the driver under "instruction" was obviously still in high range and relying on the brakes all the way down. I have also heard stories the owner refuses point blank to assist with any voluntary repairs in the area despite the fact he is earning money from and potentially damaging these byways. Looks like they are still going strong - even expanding judging by the fleet they have.

Going to be up in the lakes this weekend (Ravenglass area-ish) keen to get out and do a bit of laning if anyone local is heading out that would like some company? Chris |
