Twin Electrics
We have the factory fit towbar with single electrics. We have this morning bought a new caravan and will need to have twin electrics and fridge relay.

Any idea of a rough cost? 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic

Right, now the detailed answer now I've checked the finer details from my work PC!

You'll currently have the factory fit 'N' type towing electrics. If you want the split electrics, you have to buy two new looms, as the accessory fit 'S' towing electrics don't fit with the factory fit 'N' type electrics. This means you've got to remove your current towing electrics loom, and replace with two new looms.

'N' Type towing Electrics: LR005920 RRP: £91.00
'S' Type towing Electrics: LR005921 RRP: £115.00

Those prices are obviously plus fitting (although you can do them yourself quite easily!)

Are you sure you don't need 13 Pin electrics? (Depending on the age of your caravan)

If so...

13 Pin Towing Electrics: LR005919 £137.00

Hope this helps!

It will have a 13 Pin connection then, as far as I'm aware.
If so, then you'll need the LR005919 loom.

Hello CatherineF

GUM97 is right, your N type 7 Pin Socket needs to be replaced with a 13 Pin Socket and Loom
that runs through to your Battery Compartment (under Front Passenger Seat).

Simple to check and confirm, look at the Plug on your Caravan and count the Pins....13 almost certainly.
This Plug Type will charge the on board Fridge (or actually the leisure battery from which everything runs)
the 13 Pin also has feeds to the reversing and fog lights which has become 'a must' on most new trailers / caravans.

Just about to do the same on mine, had a 7 Pin and now need a 13 Pin
You can get a converter plug that allows a 13 Pin Trailer (or Caravan) Plug ... to plug into a 7 Pin Socket on
the rear of your vehicle but no - battery charging and no reverse and no fog lights so technically I think illegal.

I know this as I have just bought an Eriba Caravan and need to upgrade.
but got home on the 13 >7 Pin adapter

Loom price range is around £80-120
JLR listed as £300 to supply and install.
DIY is possible, there will be threads / info on here

Good Luck SKIP

Catherine

If it's a brand new caravan it will be 13 pin electrics.

I had mine changed at the stealer, I was going to do it myself, but didn't have time.

From memory, when I looked at doing it myself the fitting was plug and play except for the need to run a live feed from the battery and install a relay.

This is the first time i have used 13 pin electrics and they are far superior to the old 7 pin set ups.

Legally im sure its ok to use a adaptor 7 to 13 all you wont have is reverse lights and im sure there is no legal requirements to have then on trailer or even on the car ( not checked on mot etc )

but as said you wont have battery charging or run the fridge as you drive , but thats ok if you just need to get caravan home etc

but you are better off to change to 13 pin for when you use caravan for holidays etc

i got both 7 and 13 sockets on mine ,so covered without needing adaptors

Hello munch90

.....how Question did you fit both, as there is only X1 Plug to pick up on for most of the lights behind the ROS Wheel.
Did you 'cut into this' for your second system Question

It's an interesting proposition to leave my 7 Pin installed, and Fit an additional 13 Pin, although I have used the 'recessed' site withing the Cross Member, so if I went down this route my 'No.2' system would be in the time honored 'exposed' position, somewhere out in the elements,

any pics... Exclamation SKIP

I cheated and left 7 pin as it was
fitted 13 pin with wiring for fridge and and charging then run 7 core fly lead with 7 pin plug from back of 13 pin socket to plug in to 7p socket ( hope that makes sense )

i dont use the 13 pin one much , so fitted dummy socket with no internals to hold fly lead up under back

if i want to use 7 pin just plug straight to 7 pin socket

if i want to use 13 pin i plug in to 13 pin socket then plug fly lead into 7 pin

only thing i never bothered wiring reverse light , but if you can see to reverse a caravan in the dark using reverse lights on the caravan then your a better man than me Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

l might wire them up one day Thumbs Up

Thanks munch90

Think I'll stick with the plan to swap to a LR OEM 13 Pin System,
and use one of these when I want to two my Ex MOD Trailer (now 7 Pin)...

13 Pin to 7 Pin Adapter

As for reversing the Eriba (Caravan)... no need as it's fitted with a Reich Mover System so
has a hand held remote control, so in effect big remote controlled car... Exclamation
but at this point it's unhitched so no reversing light... Sad SKIP
