2014 2.2 oil consumption
My 2014 2.2 110 van is going for its first service next Friday, but on checking the oil today (which I've done regularly), I found it to be down to just on the bottom of the dipstick. It's only done 4440 miles from new and this seems rather excessive to me. I've now topped it back up of course.

Last time I checked, I'm certain it was just below the maximum mark. I've not noticed any smoke, but then I've not really been looking out for it. There's no leaks underneath either.

Can I put this down to the engine simply using some oil whilst it's being run in, or is it something I should take up with the dealer next week?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Can't comment on a Defender - But every new Transit I've checked via work [Exact same engine] has always seemed to have oil level on or even below minimum within a few thousand miles Rolling Eyes

I'm not talking 2 or 3 vans here - Feckin hundreds of them Thumbs Up Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Thanks very much. Looks like it's a case of "they all do that Sir."

I'll stop worrying and keep it topped up!

First 20.000 kilometers never needed to top it up with a single drop. Stopped checking it on a regular basis since then.

24000 miles in 14 months and not a drop of oil needed to be put in between the two services I've had since new. That's probably the kiss of death Very Happy

yep, there shouldn't be any oil used on the Puma engines, whether 2.4 or 2.2 --

Well just to add to the mix. I've just done my first oil change at 1350 miles and only got 6 litres out and that included the oil from the filter. Filled it back up to the max on the dip stick and could only get 6 litres back in!

Only on a Landrover Banging Head

Can only add that I posted a thread on here (last year) because I was worried that my 2.2 Defender (13 plate) was NOT using any oil and was concerned that water or something might be getting in. Consensus at the time was 2.2 does not using oil at any great rate

Thanks for all the replies. My dealer has asked me to monitor how much oil is being used and keep them informed. If it is excessive (and I must admit, I'm disappointed with it), I trust that the warranty will get it sorted out.
