my Puma has, I suspect, standard bulbs.

before I shellout for some new ones - Philips Extreme as an example, I was wondering what you use.

Is an A-Bar and driving lights really necessary? BM52

Having gone from the dim glow of the 1989 Defender I had for 16 years to a 2008 Puma, I find the standard lights perfectly adequate (and I live in the sticks at the end of a network of little country lanes)

I have Phillips Extreme bulbs with clear headlights (i.e reflector pattern on the bowl, not the glass) and like them a lot.

Some have fitted HIDs from eBay but be aware that you need to have auto levelling headlights and headlight washers for them to be legal. My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk

Surely it depends upon individual circumstances and cannot be 'generalised?'

For me it is a resounding YES! I travel across Salisbury Plain on a regular basis, in the Winter especially to be able to illuminate the road as much as possible is safer. Especially in inclement weather or if there is carrion (a deer or a badger) that has previously been hit and is still lying in the road! If you are just 'pootling' from A to B on major roads or well lit streets I would then say extra or upgraded lighting is not a necessity!

Great looking Defender Ken! Thumbs Up Do you get any relection off the bonnet? I have seen people mask off the lower part of the light bezel/lens to prevent reflection!

For me with extra lights 'big is beautiful!' Laughing

Wish I could afford the HID/LED set up, once you get into HID territory the prices become extortionate....a pair of Lightforce 240 HIDs are over £1000 compared to £300 for a pair of standard ones! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I would suggest to use 4000-4500şK H4 bulbs and you should be ok. I use the extra lights only on off road conditions or isolated rural roads to spot animals, pedestrians etc.

Keep bulb spares as they tend to last less than normal halogen bulbs. Thumbs Up Puma 110" SW

I bought some from halfords, they won a auto mag best buy. At first i was not convinced they would be any different but I put them in one at a time and tried, there is a marked difference.

having said that, I want some of those led lamps ...
