Thanks Ken,
Your ability is unquestionable. Unfortunately my tyre fitter (an old school mate of mine) is very, very busy and cannot afford to dedicate the time desired to sort mine out. (I don't really like to ask either as I can see how busy he is) Thank you for your kind and generous offer and if you were nearer I would take you up on it. Having heard good things about the beads and spoken to them twice with the 'warranty' given I have nothing at this juncture to lose apart from the time it will take me to do two trips to get the new tyres fitted as I have got the beads already. I also have warmed to the concept of the dynamic balancing theory. I shall see this week and report back. On my existing Mach 5s I have at least 6" of stickies on the inner edge on all four. These I feel are going to be a ba5t4rd to remove eventually. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Tyres ordered last thing Friday delivered today first thing.
Click image to enlarge Had a bit of a nightmare getting them fitted due to one of the tyres having collapsed walls from storage and not beading on the rim. As luck would have it (or not) the fitter concerned struggled to fit the very first one, gave up and lost interest in fitting the remaining four so took the lot and went elsewhere. Took them to the Cooper Tyre dealers in Poole who fell over themselves to assist. White letters in this time. Click image to enlarge Dynabeads duly fitted, will try and get these nailed on today. Thanks Venomator.....Can't possibly be any worse than the Coopers, I had to upgrade the HU and buy a subwoofer for them mothers.
Not tried them out yet but got them fitted to the Landy, also had the foresight as the wheels were coming off to source some Dinitrol and redo as much as was practical under the arches at the same time.... Click image to enlarge Not as 'prominent' as the 15" X 11.5" and on the right side of legality this time. Click image to enlarge Just the spare to fit. Made by a horse dentist......Griffin....316 stainless, lifetime warranty with 'self designed and adapted' decat to include a cat of sorts. Straight through centrebox and no rearbox...... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Several forum members have them, Oakseywick, Sticky and Harryb450 to name a few, good value for money. From an old thread..... Done and dusted.......
Click image to enlarge Took the 90 for a long spin today at varying speeds upto a short blast above where I should have been 'perhaps?' There is a very slight vibration only discernable when the steering wheel is not being gripped tight (not on the vehicle itself ) bang on at 50mph. At all other speeds with regards to vibration etc, it was impeccable. I am currently running at the pressures applied by the tyre fitting centre which is 36psi all round. I will drop the pressures perhaps and see what occurs. Nevertheless at this juncture I am more than happy that I chose the balancing bead route and will probably bin the stickies and fit a second lot to my other set of Mach 5s. I note Lorryman and Lambley had issues a while after fitting. I'll get back if I find the same.
As a footnote the BF Goodrich KM2s are significantly quieter than the Cooper Discoverer STTs. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Dropped the pressures 32 front, 34 rear and everything sweet.
Decided to clean the old Mach 5s and used Ken's trick to get the stickies off (thanks again Ken). They came up a treat and the powdercoating is still fine after just over 5 years. Will go down the balancing bead route with these as well if they ever go back on. Click image to enlarge A lot of the weights literally needed no effort to get off, some where already missing and others were more stubborn. Nevertheless I was shocked by how many there were. These were from two wheels only, had turned black and some had evidence of corroding. Click image to enlarge If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
