You need a solar shower, basically its a bladder type water container clear on one side and black on the other, fill it up in the morning ( holds about twenty litres) leave it in the sun all day to heat up and it's ready to use. They have a hose on them with a shower head on and a tap,it's best to have a "submariners shower" with these ie turn shower on to get wet, turn shower of while you wash then on again to rinse off or you may run out water half way through !
Don't know if you will have the problem in Scotland but if left in the sun for too long the water can get almost too hot to touch. You should be able to buy one of these at any good camping shop (or e bay of course). 2005 Td5 90 XS Steve Last edited by Lou Sparts on 16th Mar 2015 10:04am. Edited 1 time in total |

Cheers Lou,
I'll go and have a look on line. I'll be very surprised if the water gets too hot to use in Scotland. More chance of the water freezing solid! Thanks |

Those solar showers are pretty rubbish to be fair. We had them in Morocco and never really got a proper shower, despite high temps and sunshine. But then we were travelling so never really got to leave the bag still in the sun for any time and tied on the roofrack didn't work as the air cooled it and they eventually burst!. Best shower was simply heat 2 litres of water, mix with cold till a good supply of nice warm water and then use a 12V submersible pump and a shower head. They are available to buy for not much money and cheap enough, easy to store and no installation needed.

We used to use the same sort of setup and yes the sun does warm it up but if you have been travelling all day and want a shower quickly at a sensible temperature put the kettle on and mix your own warm water. We have used a oz tent shower cubicle for modesty but in Australia we didn't bother and just scared off the wildlife.

Agreed. The solar showers weren't the best. I would say luke warm at best. Nowhere near hot enough for a real shower. As MM suggested a heater to give the hot and mix with cold and then 12v sub pump. Al works well until someone uses all the water! Then you have to wait to boil another load. If you are travelling around, why not just book into a campsite every 3 or 4 days to get a good srcub down and then carry on with your trip. Quite an effective way of doing it 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

In my defence, I only used all the water due to an experiment at over-volting the submersible pump at 24v. Was a good power shower though

We've done some wild camping in Scotland, mainly whilst motorcycling, I wouldn't have thought 'wild' showering wasn't suitable at this time of year..although maybe I'm getting old and soft. The option we've deployed is to use the local swimming baths or leisure centre...they've always been perfect and very accommodating for a shower...may not be suitable everywhere, but worth thinking about.

Here's what I use, (as Tiger).
I use a black caravan waste water-can, we stick it on the on the roof rack so the sun gives it a bit of warmth.. Ideal for on the beach when we come off the water and then sit on the beach for the rest of the day. Click image to enlarge |

What’s wrong with a big sponge and a bar of soap and a big bowl of hot water heated from the kettle. I quick sponge down in the wild is all you need.
A lot simpler than any outdoor shower thingy! For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Just find a nearby river and have a bath. If you really need a shower find a waterfall
