Diff oil looks like liquid grey seal ?
noticed a small drip patch under the rear the other day...looked like was coming from the diff oil seal..so I drove home 200 miles at 50mph with serious in car paranoia ...next day pressure washed underneath (I do not go offroad apart from building sites) left it for a day or two ..went for a drive checked underneath...dry ??? was it empty I wondered ? so took off drain plug and it was full of grey gloop...??

Is this ancient molyslip ? oil mixed with water ? a grease I do not know and...is it ok?

Have purchased new oils and will change...

Edit-Just noticed its your rear diff!!

If it's the front diff the one shot wives grease can weep into the axle and make the oil look a bit grey & gloopy 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

Id would change the oil asap, run it out of the axle over a magnet and see if anything sticks suggesting wear, oil often goes grey if water has been mixed with it. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

10 min job..never seen such minging oil...stank as well..bit dissapointed as previous owner swore it had not been under water!
Front diff will sort next week...I was thrown for a min thinking the gloop was possibly some lubricant I was unaware of.

Are the axle breathers intact/clear? You don't need to go very deep with a warm axle and blocked breather for water to get sucked in through the hubs.

The axles on my first TDCi were full of brown silt and water from wading at Eastnor. LR & the selling dealer didn't bother to carry out any basic checks before putting it on the forecourt. Evil or Very Mad needless to say I sent it back and picked up an ex demo to replace it Thumbs Up 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon
