As long as you have something across the top of the window opening to stop any bricks/blocks from resting on the actual window frame in the form of a lintel or are you up to the top plate that the roof is built onto? If so get the disc cutter out and open the aperture up and slide the new window in. What's inbetween the piers is just infill by the sound of it so it could be a doorway, patio doors or a wooden panel as it sounds like the roof is supported by the piers.

It's a concrete block wall. The garage is about 2m longer than my 90 which has taken up residence inside the garage. Along that length of wall I have 2 piers built into the wall. So there is no huge span between piers and there is a concrete lintel over the window and then 2 courses of red bricks and then the wall plate. So no huge weight above and it would be easy to put a bigger lintel in if required.
Looks like I'm going to get the disc cutter out. Happy days. Can't beat a bit of mess and noise to keep the neighbours happy Many thanks 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

the general length of lintel bearing is 150mm at each end; but this can be reduced down to 100mm if there is minimal loading above, so you might not need to change the lintel.

Fair point. But in the near future I want to raise the height of the roof so my110 with rack and tent fits inside. So would need to go up 2 or 3 courses of blocks. Will have a measure tonight and see exactly what I have. 110 D250 SE HT

Post a pic up if possible.
Sounds doable but would be a pain to remove such a small amount. Is the wall single skin of bricks/blocks? Do you have to remove material from both sides? It's twice the work. Have you priced a new double glazed unit? They aren't costly. Andy |

as you can see the wooden frame has taken a battering this winter. I have been offered a take out window that will fill the gap for £30. Seems people round by my parents have more money than sense.

Personally I'd disc cut the right hand side and probably take the bricks out above the lintel, loosen the lintel out and recentre it over the window. Replace the bricks and job done leaving it ready to build higher at that later date

Now I'm happy that there is no restriction on cutting into the wall.
I think I'll do as you suggest and cut into 1 side. And then play with the lintel. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |
