Thanks to all for the comments.
Sticky, In fact the roads has been improved a lot in the last 30 years. At that time the Southern road that connect Chaiten with Caleta Tortel was just a lane with a lot of mud. Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine park now have several 5 star hotels and a lot of tourism. Tierra del fuego remains more less the same (gravel roads) but they are open new ones to reach the Beagle channel through the Chilean Side (stunnig road) Still in some parts the ettiquete is the same but most in the seconday roads (most of the primary roads are now paved both ways). Ushuaia is now a touristic city with a lot of good hotels, reastaurants and other services. Enjoy your Pisco Sour! Wyvern - that's the Argentinean side and about 1000 miles North, Chubut Valley.
It's an amazing story though, it's hard to imagine that a community could move to Argentina to protect their Welsh identity! I was teaching outdoor education in North Wales at the time I went to Patagonia and thought I would try and get to Chubut, but it was such a difficult journey at the time, I never made it. Perhaps another one for the 'bucket list' |
