Eduardo, thank you so much for posting those photographs.

It brings back some amazing memories for me, as I have made three expeditions down there.

I understand Puerto Natales has changed beyond recognition in the last thirty years? When I was there first, there was only one small hotel on the water front and virtually no shops at all for supplies, the only tourist attraction was a moth eaten array of stuffed penguins, puma and condor in the village museum.

The roads look like they have improved too, it took me a while to figure out the etiquette, when you had one lane 'graded' and the other lane gravel, nobody made the move onto the gravel until the last second, which was terrifying.

My second trip I took a sea kayak & windsurf board down to Ushuaia, which I left there, I have often wondered if I was the first to sail the Beagle Channel and whether I started a trend, I taught a couple of the local Navy posted there.

I'm going to make myself a Pisco sour and enjoy your photo's again.

In fact the roads has been improved a lot in the last 30 years. At that time the Southern road that connect Chaiten with Caleta Tortel was just a lane with a lot of mud. Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine park now have several 5 star hotels and a lot of tourism.

Tierra del fuego remains more less the same (gravel roads) but they are open new ones to reach the Beagle channel through the Chilean Side (stunnig road)

Still in some parts the ettiquete is the same but most in the seconday roads (most of the primary roads are now paved both ways).

Ushuaia is now a touristic city with a lot of good hotels, reastaurants and other services.

Wyvern - that's the Argentinean side and about 1000 miles North, Chubut Valley.

It's an amazing story though, it's hard to imagine that a community could move to Argentina to protect their Welsh identity!

I was teaching outdoor education in North Wales at the time I went to Patagonia and thought I would try and get to Chubut, but it was such a difficult journey at the time, I never made it.

Perhaps another one for the 'bucket list'
