Sounds like a wiring short, look around the back door etc for a rubbed / nipped wire.

Maybe have a look around the light switch and wiper switch for a wire rubbing the steering column area.
It might end up being difficult to find, but it sure sounds like wires touching some where. |

Water/moisture in the fusebox?
Leaky screen or bulkhead can affect it Andy |

Thanks Munch90 - will follow those wires further along in the morning
Little pic is correct and so is the post ![]() Thanks again V12vanquish will look there as well. Strange thing is that although there is current draw (fuse arc's when putting it in) the fuse doesn't blow - not that I have left it in for more than a few seconds Last edited by PrivateB on 8th Nov 2014 5:38pm. just re read my post and not quite right , there is a ign fed switched feed and a ign fed live ign fed switched feed , is the one that you switch the wiper on and off with ign fed live is used to make wiper self park when you switch it off but still comes down to you got a short somewhere ! if there is a relay for rear wiper , might be worth starting there , pull relay out it might tell you which side short is on , before or after relay |

What's making this even stranger is the fact that all this is happening with the ignition off.
Time to start digging deeper - Thanks all |

If there is a live wire touching somewhere it won't matter if the ignition is on or not.
I have my battery tender pig tail lead connected into he fuse box below the drivers seat, there are loads of live feeds in there with the ignition off. |

I know this thread has been idle for a while but just another option to be considered if this happens to anyone else.
When my 91 200Tdi did the 'possessed car' think one night, it turned out to be corrosion & shorting in the rear wiring loom where an aftermarket tow socket had been spliced in. Always worth unwrapping this and checking for bad/corroded joints in this area. |
