As a farmer I think what would have sold well and would could still work would be to stretch a TD5 Disco chassis to 120 inch and stick a pickup back on it. Refined, very good tow vehicle, easy enough to maintain. Could fit Puma engine and 6 speed box to bring it up to date. Galvanise the chassis as a USP and bingo. Many UK farmers would buy them I am convinced.

Something like that white one from Australia (Goggle Disco Ute)

I don't really need any more power, but the option of a more powerful engine would have been good,...a 3L V6 Turbo Diesel would have been nice, & what I would've ticked had it been on the option list. Even the 150HP tune now offered on a couple of the celebration models would've been welcome.
But We're perfectly happy with what we have. Pickles.

And galvenising the doors and chassis and bulkhead.

Lots people complain about elbow room.

I have been driving defenders daily and over 250 000 miles (wow thats the distance to the moon) for the last 20+ years and being 6'3" never had a problem with elbow room or head room.

Hope my puma will be as good as the last two when it arrives on 1st of March Smile

I just hope the DC100 will be as iconic as it predecessors.

Sort out the minor niggles (build quality, leaks, heating and ventilation, clutch, driveline clonks), build in decent security so they are hard to steal, but otherwise leave it alone.

Sadly it won't happen, not just for regulatory reasons, but because the cost of hand-building a vehicle is simply too great.

Im not too fussed on styling. I dont have a problem styling wise with some of the LR ideas. However it must be modular, modular, MODULAR.

Sadly i know it wont be.

Interesting that this figures so highly on new buyers lists - and JLR do so poorly apparently - "Two consistently low-scoring brands were at the bottom of the J.D. Power study. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Fiat finished last while next-to-last was Land Rover, owned by Tata Motors of India."

Basically there is nothing wrong with the current car except susceptibility to corrosion and all the mechanical issues. But for a new Defender.... back to basics, utilitarian, minimal and well made. As such:

Same body shape
Return to front opening vents
Less bling
No leather, just high tech washable wear resistant cloths and plastics, made from recycles materials
Back to even more basic than basic
100% Corrosion proof
Better quality control
Aluminum or galvanised chassis
Revamp headlight surrounds
Turn 90 into a 95 maybe
Re-engineer everything with care so it works and wont need 10 warranty returns from new
Discreet but utilitarian airbags
A system that can actually hold the weight of the spare rear wheel and tyre. For the life of the car!
Increase fuel capacity
Own the look and integrity of the car making it the exact opposite of an FJ Cruiser

Ethics, hows this for an idea, stupid?:
Instead of thinking of the bottom line profits- how much extra money they can make from this new evolution/incarnation. Sell more more more, not enough profit, more more more. How about making the car to the best of their ability, for the current customers that love it- how the current customers and Britain want it. Then after paying your shop floor staff the best wages, give ALL Defender profits from here on, to charity. Companies spend a fortune on race car teams and other sponsorships for profile. Land Rover should keep their Heratige alive, respectfully, for profile at zero profit to themselves. Thus acknowledge that this car created Land Rover and after 67 years of taking profits from this car, it's time to give something back. Land Rover, invest in your customers, employes, world around you, and your sense of fun.

Importantly-
Create new division called Land Rover Commercial
Then our car can be separated from the Luxury aspect of the brand. Most sale persons or service departments treat Defenders with contempt because they have less hassle and more money from cashed up Range Rover customers (and wannabes).
This also frees them from the polar association with the Defender, so unhindered, they can continue asserting themselves as a prestigious luxury brand.

(On a side note, I am sure even in its current form, that the Defender, surely must be profitable. How many cars are made per day, selling on average £25,000 each on road at dealers!!!)

BMW Motorrad?-
I think Land Rover should also examine BMW motorcycles and their 2014 cult release of the lo-fi but highly well made R Nine T. That works for BMW Motorrad who have established themselves as an expensive technology driven brand. Have a look at the R Nine T online.

Historic center?:
How fantastic would it be, with this new Defender, to incorporate a classic center manufacturing new parts for old cars and offering genuine Land Rover restoration service.

Better security
Better corrosion resistance
Rear seats (where fitted) that remove easily

and for people that like to fit them... a proper factory fitted snorkel with the entire intake system designed to be compatible ie airtight/waterproof.

I'd like an engine that's as good as the best variants of Toyota's 4.2L diesel engine and a 6 speed version of the New Process NP435 gearbox. Stronger axles, diffs and halfshafts would also be required. 1990 Defender 300TDi
