Most probably not balanced
But if you have lifted or lowered or changed wheel/ tyre size dramatically can be a factor |

I've not/had anything changed but the UJ, silly question then, does the UJ need balancing after fitting? 2005 TD5 90 CSW XS

I'm not sure, I bought a new front and rear prop for my tdi and just fitted with no need to balance.
I lowered by 110 tdci and experienced front prop shake at 100kmh, removed -2" rear springs and put on std and went away. the suspension geometry is carefully thought out on the defender. another possibility is the steering damper ... |

my back uj had failed rear prop off and had new uj fitted re-fitted prop drive away |

maybe the yokes are not aligned as they should be ?
and to be honest its easy to make a cock up when fitting a uj and end up with a tight bearing on one post worth getting both checked |

Thing is, I paid a garage to replace it so I expected them to know what they were doing, I plan to take it back next week I suppose I'll find out then 2005 TD5 90 CSW XS

Could be loose bolts or something not right with the job done when replacing the UJ. Make sure they use new nyloc nuts.

The front UJ's should be installed out of phase, meaning the yokes don't line up. IIRC it's about 45 degrees out of phase in the front, but if you google it you'll find it I'm sure. I think in general UJs are usually aligned in-phase (yokes match) on many cars/trucks, so especially if you have more vibration after it's likely they are out. Rears should be in phase, i.e. lined up. Fronts should be slightly out of phase.
The difference is due to the angle of the front diff nose being slightly upward toward the transfer box, whereas the rear axle has its diff nose on a parallel plane to that of the transfer box. On the rear the angles are opposite and equal, and so the oscillations in rotational speed inherent to UJs are evened out, on the front the difference in angle means that the phasing is set to smooth out the oscillation as much as possible. The amplitude of the oscillations is proportional to the angle of the UJ joint, which is why when you lift a Defender too high it starts vibrating. |

Proposhafts have balancing weights on them also. I'd check this hasn't been knocked off.
Managed to do so on my own 90. |

Thanks chaps for your help, I took it back to the garage and he said there's nothing wrong with it? Now I have to take it to someone else to see if this is the cause or not. I do wish I knew more about defenders. 2005 TD5 90 CSW XS
