Vin Plate Advice
Hi Guys,

I have been trying to get a replacement Vin plate for my 110.

The reason being is that my one has got really quite badly corroded to the point that the numbers are starting to get a bit illegible and I want to stay the correct side of the law. Plus due to the fact it wasn't stamped straight it looks like my max trailer weight is 50kg- as the 34 are in the black part and hardly legible - to me who is looking for it and less so to potential mr plod in the rain.

Now, I got in contact with Land Rover and asked if they can issue me with a new one. I don't mind paying for a new one, thats fine, I just need a replacement. After much batting back and forth I eventually was told that they cannot supply me with a new one as they do not have any of my style vin plate available. More interestingly they told me my best bet was to buy a replica blank one and stamp it myself.

Is it just me, or does that somewhat defeat the purpose of having a vin plate?

Anyone done this before? Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Hi Shaggydog

I have done this before with my Bowler, the original vin plate was unreadable, was pointed in the direction of these guys

Few days later armed with all the ownership documentation and some vehicle images I got it stamped at a local engraving company Thumbs Up 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

Thanks Jomara Thumbs Up

Interestingly it turns out I have a Range Rover classic style plate Shocked

I'm assuming that is due to it being a County spec/common plate between all of the range in 1991?

I'm assuming its better to replace like for like? Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

the punches are pretty cheap but it's hard to make it all neat and consistent if you do it by hand.
I've done a replacement before and it worked out fine.
