Hello
I’m having a problem, since I fitted the new wheels and tyres… (pics in this thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic3798.html ). Before I had these, the car behaviour was impecable! When I fitted the wheels and tyres I went home slowly due to traffic … next day I attached a trailer with a boat on it and went on vacation … Because I could not drive above 80/90 kmh I did not noticed anything… Next day without the trailer attached I made a small trip (about 10km) on a nice road and that’s when I noticed it … When I reach 90/100/110 kmh the steering wheel started vibrating a lot … As I was 350 km away from the tyre dealer I went to a near one to have the 4 wheels balanced (only, did not aligned them)… He solved it, said the wheels had too much weight on, and the Defender behaved well , till now … Now I’ve done some more 1500km since and I’m having the same problem … In my 90 I changed tyres about 3 times (always BFGoodrich) and never had this problem … Could it be one of the wolf rims that is defective ? Is it the tyres ? What should I look for ? Should I go and have the wheels balanced again ? And aligned ? Only made 60 km off road (large road, no big obstacles) … Do I have to balance the wheels every 1500 km ? Thanks Regards Joao '10 Land Rover Defender 110 CC '08 BMW F800GS '64 SIIA Forward Control '69 SIIA 109 ZA CKD _____________________________________________ You have the right to remain silent. Probably just need balancing, the nature of the imbalance will determine what speed you feel the vibrations.
Also check there is no mud etc on the rims as a small amount can nock the balance out very quickly. |

Try balancing powder.
I have that in my front tyres with BFG MT's 235 -85's Since that was put in I never had any unbalance in my front tyres unless there was a big junk off sticky clay on the inside off my rim. There are no balancing weights on my front tyres. Click image to enlarge But first check if the rims are straight and the tyres are mounted even. got eactly the same with mine. Only started with new wheels, have swapped them around, had them rebalanced, but all this changes the wobble but does not remove.
Now going to check bushes and swivels. Andy |

I'll try to swap all the wheels, remove tyres, fit them again, balance and align all the wheels ... Let's see ... It should solve, I hope, because before I fit them, with the standard factory wheels and tyres, the Defender used to run smoothly, no vibrations at all .... Try to be present when doing the job and check out the conditions of each rim and tire. Also, just in case, look if you have mud stuck on the internal side of the rims as it can cause serious vibration. Puma 110" SW

Thats what I said, balancing powder.
Look again at my picture there are no weights on the front tyres, there are weights on the rear tyres. It really does work. I drove already 50000 km with these tyres and the front still don't need balancing the rear start to wobble. Solved mine today
Changed all the front end bushes, and the track rod ends (Thanks Army Bob). Then even went for laser alignment (The wobble had gone before) Drives very very nice now. Andy |
