[Wanted] GKN Overdrive
Does anyone have any ideas where I can find one? I know they are not made anymore but a good second hand one? A Defender... Mans best friend, never judges, trustworthy (most of the time), go anywhere, do anything, looks the business, and mans biggest money pit!!!

Yes the name for my 90 is Derrick!

The Roamerdrive is a fantastic bit of kit. I have had mine for 6 months, and every time I engage it, I get a big smile on my face. Worth every penny. http://roamerdrive.com

Having owned a GKN and having a good mate that owns a romadrive the Roma is the far superior unit. The GKN is probably OK on a TDI but on a standard Td5 it struggles IMO. Put a remap on (like i did) and it will get really fed up in no time.

Best and cheapest option IMO is a disco 2 transfer box

Hi

I have a tuned TD5 and a GKN fitted. Find it an excellent combination - the GKN doesn't struggle and has been trouble free - been on there over 7 years now Thumbs Up .

Maybe I had a dud, it went back to GKN a few times as it would slip when towing and boil the oil to the point it would spew out of the breather and make a right mess. They put it down to the cone clutch being unable to handle anything more than 170bhp........... Whistle

I pulled it off and stuck a D2 transfer case on in the end, the overdrive was rebuilt once more by GKN and I sold it to a mate with a 300 tdi, it has given him 10 years of great service with no issues at all.

I would be concerned as to the availability of parts for them now as GKN have pretty much disowned them, I think Devon 4X4 bought up all the last available stock from memory?
