England 2013 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 HT Keswick Green
Significant Water Ingress
Hi all
I have had my 63 plate 90 Hardtop from new, which I purchased 15 months ago.
Very early on I noticed small amount of water ingress after very heavy rain etc. This looked to be coming from the offside rear corner. This happened about 3 times so nothing much to worry about. Or so I thought…
It went in for it's first service exactly 4 weeks ago and I even hesitated mentioning problem. But when I did they said they would need the vehicle for 3/4 days to investigate and repair. I was given an exact replacement vehicle to use, so no real issue.
However. My vehicle is still in the LR bodyshop and after "thorough water testing" they found significant water leaks!?! The dealership has had to get written confirmation from LR UK to go ahead with the repairs etc. due to the overall cost of repairs. I was invited to go and look at the vehicle (which I haven't as yet), but warned that it is substantially stripped down!!! They even mentioned respraying of areas. I am now wondering if this is returned in a condition that isn't 100% whether I can return / reject the vehicle??
Anybody else had this problem and any thoughts?
Cheers

You have had it too long to reject it. Get onto LR Customer services. Unfortunately they need kicking along to get anything done, but it's in your interests.

To do so, in fairness, you would need a starting point to prove that any work carried out, stripped and replaced, met the same condition it was in when repaired as of when you handed the vehicle over to the garage.

Proof would be any video footage you have made or a series of detailed photographs. The same thing that many garages do when you hand a vehicle over for a service, so that say there was a small dent, once photographed in your company you can’t afterwards say the garage had caused it.

Obviously if after your Defender has been put back together again, you notice some glaringly obvious faults that would be different. Plus it will all depend on the skill and experience of the staff working on your vehicle. I would say that the odds are in your favour of the Defender being put back together perfectly, after all it is not that difficult to strip and put a Land Rover back together again and the people who are doing this will hopefully have been trained to do so.

A little off topic but recently I have had warranty work carried out on a two year old caravan that had a damp issue, and a new inside panel had to be replaced, this involved striping down one side of the caravan removing all the lockers, heating ducts etc., I also was invited to visit and look and in consequence when I saw the condition of the caravan stripped I went away depressed. However a week later when I picked it up the standard of the work was done to such a high level that you could not tell anything had been replaced, and to be honest it looked better than when it was new. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

From delivery my 63 plate XS Station Wagon had an ill fitting door (it could not be re-hung to fix the issue). After some time I had water ingress in three locations. Bottom corners of front screen, rear offside window front side. It went in a couple of times. First for inspection (4 weeks) and then LR approval for repairs was sought. Second time it went into the body shop and two weeks later it came out!

Re-born Thumbs Up

Totally sorted. The leak issues and door fitting issue were completely resolved.

Carrs Land Rover in Truro handled this with LR. I was left feeling very happy with the warrantee and service. Months and several down pours later my truck remains leak free.

Someone told me that I should be patient as with every new Defender comes manufacturing issues that take a while to work through. Once sorted you should be in a good place. Clearly still early days for me, I'll just have to wait and see.

The dealer didn't pass on any details to me other than to say they had attended to all of the issues. Sorry to hear you are still having problems, water ingress is so darned annoying, mine has the carpet option so it got completely soaked in the back, at the time I was very unimpressed. Its a massive sense of relief to know its staying dry now.
