I don't completely agree. I agrre on the technical side but if you get stuck 9 out of 10 times you are hanging on your diffs. So portal axles makes sense. Roel

Positively agree. I don't dispute that
![]() But look how far you can get on Rovers. And I'm still sure with saying that 95% of the time you'd get just as far with properly setup up Rovers and wheel/tyre combo than you would with portals! Still... Would love to have portals on a play thing. |

Does that require you to be a member before reading? Is there a synopsis of the issues? |

Yeah well, if someone likes it...
Maybe over half of us don't even need the Defender at all and would be better off driving a VW Up! anyways. ![]() |

Look here - description of the whole story of 130 on portals. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufÃnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo ![]() |

sorry, did not realise the member thing for reading the AULRO site. But as grizz mentioned the bloke gave up and converted back after one too many breakdowns. After taking part twice in the RFC I was looking into portals. Guess what...I went for GU axles. m pic of the OZ 110 ![]() Click image to enlarge |

I really love them Hutchinson wheels... Don't think they'd look right on my 90 or fit over the brakes but if I ever build a 110 or 130 I'm having them

Thanks ![]() I had some spare time yesterday so actually registered - not a painful or lengthy process - and whipped through some of the posts. There appeared to be several engineering issues. It's a shame the offer of the upgraded military spec portals couldn't be followed up on as that would have been interesting. What is RFC & GU axles? |
