Personally I believe the more security devices fitted the better and a tracker is a must even if it is one of those cheaper ones from eBay, which incidentally are very good.

X-Eng transmission lock is a good shout for Td5. Compact to carry around in cubby box and easy to deploy / remove once you get the knack. Combined with a good pedal lock makes for pretty robust locking of the transmission (at least from the cabin). Also it's bright yellow and right in view through the window, so nice visible deterrent. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

there you go ...
Click image to enlarge if you are leaving it for any length of time, take the steering wheel off outside light with motion / IR detection (and webcam) some trackers have tilt / knock sensors, electronic fences disklock / chain car to immovable object (concreted in hoop) list is endless .... |

I have that exact tracker, it is good however it drains approximately 2.5ah per day which is a lot! You could have trouble starting after a week when you include the vehicle's alarm system and cold weather. I've also noticed sometimes it can give false reports when surrounded by buildings... I had a big fright one night in Glasgow when it text me to report that the vehicle was moving at 28mph over 2 blocks from where I parked it. I requested a location reading and it text back it's location being 2 blocks away again and it was doing 20mph... I freaked out. Then after a 3rd location reading I noticed the car was in different location from the first 2 texts which was impossible to do in that amount of time.. after another check it gave the same place as where I'd parked it and 0mph. Increasing the movement alarm from 200m to 400m sorted all this out but what a frighting experience to have at 4am 1st of Jan when you are drunk.. The best GPS solution is an old smartphone with a new battery, much more accurate and you also have it as a backup phone in the car.. |

^^^ Why not? A GPS with a GSM module (i.e. a tracker) is the same as a GSM with a GPS module (i.e. a smartphone)... Cheers, Vincent
